Local Crime from 16th District 7-12-17
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 5:15 p.m. Sunday, July 9, in the 5100 block of West Ainslie Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 46-year-old man reported that a tan Chevy Blazer containing four males drove past him in an alley, and that two men exited the vehicle and approached him, according to police. The man reported that one of the men said that he is lost and asked him for directions, and then punched him twice in the left eye, police said.
The man reported that he fell to the ground and both men took his wallet, his cell phone and $80, according to police.
The man was transported to Community First Medical Center and treated for serious injuries, police said.
A WOMAN reported that two men attempted to rob her at about 1:35 a.m. Saturday, July 8, in the 3600 block of North Lavergne Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 23-year-old woman reported that two men approached her from an alley and one of the men pulled her to the ground by her backpack and attempted to remove items from it, and that as she rolled into a fetal position to protect herself, the other man struck her several times with a broken bottle and attempted to take her cell phone from her pocket, according to police.
The woman was transported to Community First Hospital and treated for minor injuries, police said.
A WOMAN reported that a man forced her into a car driven by another man at about 2 a.m. Friday, July 7, in the 4800 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 20-year-old woman reported that she was walking when a man riding a small black bicycle began to follow her and ask her numerous questions and that a man driving a white car drove up next to her and stopped when she entered an alley, according to police. The woman reported that the man on the bicycle said, “I have a gun and I’ll pull it out if you try to fight me,” and then pushed her into the vehicle, police said. The woman reported that the driver of the vehicle drove her to an alley in the 5100 block of West Belmont Avenue, put his hand on her lap and said, “I’ll give you money,” before she exited the vehicle and ran into Planet Fitness, 5129 W. Belmont Ave., and contacted a friend to escort her home, police said.
A MAN WAS arrested for drug and weapons charges at about 1:45 p.m. Friday, July 7, in the 5000 block of North Cicero Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responding to a call of a suspicious driver stopped a vehicle after the driver failed to stop at a stop sign, and the driver was arrested after the officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana inside the vehicle, saw a scale with a cut drinking straw with tape on the end of it sitting on the vehicle’s interior center console and discovered a black steel.40-caliber semi-automatic handgun and a magazine containing six live rounds inside the vehicle’s glove compartment, according to police.
The officers reported that the man had a valid FOID card for the weapon, but did not have a valid concealed carry license, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Anthony Derecho, age 35, of the 1100 block of North Wheeling Road, Mount Prospect.
TWO TEENAGERS reported that a man exposed himself at about 2:10 p.m. Sunday, July 9, in the 6800 block of North Ozark Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The two 16-year-old teenage females reported that as they were walking they saw a man standing on an outdoor balcony of an apartment building facing south who unzipped his pants, exposed his penis and started touching it, and that as they walked past him heading north, he walked along the balcony with his penis exposed, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, in the 5600 block of North Newark Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his vehicle he discovered that a metal cable that was being used to secure landscaping equipment had been cut and two power blowers valued at $1,000 were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN was charged with shoplifting after she allegedly stole liquor from the Mariano’s grocery store, 5353 N. Elston Ave., at about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee reported that she saw the woman conceal 13 bottles of liquor valued at $358 inside a shopping bag and exit the store without paying for the items, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Carrie Farley, age 40, of the 5100 block of North Elston Avenue.
A MAN WAS arrested on drug charges at about 8 p.m. Friday, June 30, in the 6300 block of North Neenah Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of two men injecting drugs into their veins inside a vehicle in the parking lot of the Walgreens store, 6310 N. Nagle Ave., and saw a vehicle driving away from the lot that matched a description and stopped the vehicle, and that when they approached the vehicle, they saw the passenger in the front seat motioning toward his waistband, according to police.
The officers reported that after they searched the man, they discovered a clear plastic bag containing a white powdery substance suspected to be heroin on the ground under the passenger-side door of the vehicle and that the man said, “that must have fallen out,” police said.
The officers arrested the man and discovered four more clear plastic bags in his possession, each containing a white powdery substance suspected to be white heroin, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Marek Mikolajczyk, age 31, of the 1500 block of Columbia Avenue, Elk Grove Village.
