Local Crime from 16th District 7-16-14
A WOMAN REPORTED that her purse was stolen at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 13, in the 5600 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 67-year-old woman reported that a man approached her from behind and took her purse containing her driver’s license and a bank card, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE reported that a man stole money from the cash register at the Walgreens drug store, 4343 N. Central Ave., at about 3:05 p.m. Sunday, July 13, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that as she was scanning a purchase, a man reached over the counter and took $50 from the cash register, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 4000 block of North Austin Avenue was burglarized between 8 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the front door was open and that a safe containing a 9 mm handgun, two .22 caliber hunting rifles and a 7.62 mm rifle missing, according to police.
TWO WOMEN reported that their home in the 5200 block of West Winona Street was burglarized between 9:30 a.m. and 8:50 p.m. Saturday, July 12, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The women reported that when they returned home they discovered that the basement security door was broken and that $4,000 in cash and jewelry valued at about $3,000 were missing from their bedrooms, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5600 block of West Higgins Avenue was burglarized at about 1 p.m. Monday, July 14, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the front and back doors were unlocked and that three laptop computers, 11 pairs of gym shoes and five jackets were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5000 block of North Nagle Avenue was burglarized between 7 a.m. and 10:15 p.m. Friday, July 11, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the back door had been forced open and that jewelry was missing, according to police.
SEVERAL THEFTS of catalytic converters from cars were reported on the Northwest Side between July 2 and July 14, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 6400 block of North Newark Avenue, the 7300 block of West Myrtle Avenue, the 5200 block of North Oak Park Avenue, the 5900 block of West Roscoe Street, the 5300 block of North Mulligan Avenue, the 5000 block of North Mulligan Avenue, the 6300 block of West Lawrence Avenue, the 4100 block of North Narragansett Avenue and the 5900 block of North Northwest Highway, according to police.
