Local Crime from 16th District 7-23-14
A MAN AND A WOMAN were shot at about 2:40 a.m. Sunday, July 20, at the Shell gas station, 5201 W. Addison St., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 24-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman reported that as they were pumping gas, a man approached them, asked them what belongings they had and fired a gun at them, according to police. The two drove to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, where the man was treated for a gunshot wound to the right thigh and the woman and the woman was treated for a wound to the left hand, police said.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 11:40 a.m. Friday, July 18, in the 5300 block of West Montrose Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 80-year-old woman reported that as she was waiting for a bus, a man grabbed her shoulder and took her chain, according to police.
TWO MEN WERE arrested on assault charges following an incident at about 12:32 a.m. Monday, July 21, in the 5600 block of West Montrose Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Two men reported that as they were skateboarding in a parking lot, a man pointed a BB gun at them and a second man pointed his hand at them in the shape of a gun, according to police. The men said that the assailants shouted for them to leave the alley, and the suspects were later arrested based on a description, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Pedro Hurtado, age 18, of the 5200 block of West Deming Place, and John J. Perez, age 18, of the 5200 block of West Byron Street.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 8400 block of West Gregory Street was burglarized between 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. Saturday, July 19, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the balcony door had been forced open and that seven gold ring valued at $2,000, four gold necklaces valued at $1,500, six gold earrings valued at $500, 10 gold coins valued at $4,000, two diamond rings valued at $3,000, two gold bracelets valued at $800 and $2,000 in cash were missing, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE of the Jewel-Osco store, 7342 W. Foster Ave., reported that two men stole items at about 4:35 p.m. Sunday, July 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that he saw a man place four boxes of teeth-whitening strips and two boxes of Rogaine valued at $338 into a bag and that the men left the store without paying for the items, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5100 block of West Hutchinson Avenue was burglarized between 3:40 p.m. and 7:10 p.m. Saturday, July 19, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the front door had been forced open and that $1,200 in cash, three computer tablets valued at $1,200 and gold jewelry were missing, according to police.
A MAN AND his son reported that their home in the 7000 block of North Ottawa Avenue was burglarized between noon and 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 18, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The two reported that when they returned home they discovered that coins valued at $70 and $5 in cash were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 6500 block of North Oxford Avenue was burglarized between 4:10 a.m. and midnight Friday, July 18, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the back door had been forced open and that a wedding ring valued at $10,000, jewelry valued at $1,000 and $1,000 in cash were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 4000 block of North Menard Avenue was burglarized between 3:30 a.m. and 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the front door had been forced open and that a television set valued at $500 was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his home in the 4900 block of West Berwyn Avenue was burglarized between 8 p.m. Friday, July 11, and 1 p.m. Sunday, July 13, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that a bicycle valued at $700 was missing from the garage, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his home in the 5200 block of North Liano Avenue was burglarized between 7 p.m. Saturday, July 12, and 6 a.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that the side door of the garage had been forced open and that $715 worth of tools was missing, according to police.
SEVERAL THEFTS of catalytic converters from cars were reported on the Northwest Side between July 14 and July 19, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 4300 block of North Marmora Avenue, the 6000 block of North Northwest Highway, the 5800 block of West Giddings Street, the 4700 block of North Linder Avenue, the 6200 block of North Leona Avenue, the 6500 block of North Nashville Avenue and the 54000 block of North East River Road, according to police.
