Local Crime from 16th District 7-3-17
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was struck by a bullet at about 2:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, in the 6400 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 20-year-old man reported that he was driving his 2006 Mazda 3 and stopped at the intersection of North Milwaukee and West Devon avenues, heard a gunshot and later discovered that there was a bullet hole in the rear passenger door of the vehicle, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 5240 W. Agatite Ave., reported that a statue was vandalized outside the church between 6 p.m. Sunday, June 25, and 7:30 a.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that parishioners attending morning church services discovered that a statue located in the grotto on the west side of the property had been vandalized with what appeared to be gang graffiti, according to police. The man reported that the statue has been vandalized in a similar manner a total of four times during overnight hours over the course of the past three weeks, police said.
The manager reported that the maintenance staff of the parish has been able to clean the damage after each of the incidents, but that he is concerned that if the vandalism continues there might be permanent damage caused to the statue and that he is concerned about the safety of the church staff and parishioners, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that a man took her dog at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, from the front yard of her residence in the 5500 block of West Henderson Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that while watching a home security video she saw a man accompanied by a small child walk up to and reach through the iron fence gate and take a tan and blond Chihuahua puppy dog wearing a pink collar with polka dots, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized between 8:30 a.m. Sunday, June 25, and 8:30 a.m. the following day, while it was parked in the 6700 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his vehicle he discovered that the rear passenger side window was shattered and that various tools valued at $665 and a backpack valued at $120 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that a man broke into the garage of his home in the 4800 block of West Ainslie Street and burglarized his vehicle at about 3:55 a.m. Thursday, June 29, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 24-year-old man reported that while he was walking to his garage to leave for work, he saw a man walk out of his yard and into the alley and that when he called out the man, he ran away through the alley, according to police. The man reported that no items were missing from his garage but that when he entered his vehicle, he discovered paperwork, an electronic e-cigarette valued at $50 and a cell phone charger valued at $10 were missing, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized between 6 p.m. and 8:50 p.m. Thursday, June 29, while it was parked in the 3800 block of North Narragansett Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his vehicle, he discovered that baseball equipment valued at $550 was missing, according to police. The man reported that the vehicle was unlocked at the time of the incident, police said.
SEVERAL vehicle thefts were reported between June 25 and June 29, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Vehicles were reported stolen in the 7400 block of North Odell Avenue, the 4800 block of North Central Avenue, the 5500 block of West Agatite Avenue, the 5900 block of West Leland Avenue, the 8700 block of West Gregory Street and the 4000 block of North Meade Avenue, according to police.
