Local Crime from 16th District 7-9-14
A 20-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested in connection with graffiti incident that resulted in about $18,000 worth of damage at Elly’s Pancake House, 5310 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The suspect was one of two men who were captured on security cameras using an etching tool to scratch graffiti into the windows of several windows at the restaurant and several nearby businesses at about 4:05 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, according to police.
The suspect, who was identified by police as Stephanos Tremulis, of the 6600 block of North Octavia Avenue, was charged with criminal damage to property. The other man on the video footage has not been arrested.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 12:30 p.m. Monday, July 7, in the 6400 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 59-year-old woman reported that a man took her necklace and a medallion and pushed her to the ground, according to police.
A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly punched an officer at about 1:15 a.m. Sunday, July 6, at the Holiday Inn O’Hare, 5615 N. Cumberland Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A hotel employee reported that a man was causing a disturbance at the hotel and that he kept returning after being escorted out several times, according to police. The man attempted to flee from custody and punched one of the officers in the face, police said. The man also was charged with criminal trespass, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Brian Jones, age 37, of the 1400 block of West Greenleaf Avenue.
A WOMAN reported that two men broke into her home in the 5000 block of North Merrimac Avenue at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, July 6, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 31-year-old woman reported that she heard two men in her living room and that when she called out the men fled and she discovered that a cell phone was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her brother was attacked at about 6:40 p.m. Thursday, July 3, at Wilson Park, 4630 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 22-year-old woman reported that a man in a red shirt hit her 16-year-old brother, causing him to fall and injure himself, according to police. Residents reported that they saw several males in the park with baseball bats shouting gang slogans, police said.
SEVERAL THEFTS of catalytic converters from cars were reported on the Northwest Side between July 1 and July 4, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 6000 block of North Nassau Avenue, the 6200 block of West Peterson Avenue, the 6000 block of West Peterson Avenue, the 6700 block of North Dowagiac Avenue, the 5500 block of West Lunt Avenue, the 5700 block of North Major Avenue, the 5500 block of North Natchez Avenue, the 6600 block of West Higgins Avenue and the 5800 block of North Mulligan Avenue, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that $6,000 in cash was stolen from his vehicle at about 10 a.m. Monday, July 7, while it was parked in the 6700 block of North Northwest Highway, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 65-year-old man reported that the passenger-side window of his car had been broken, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 6300 block of North Spokane Avenue was burglarized between 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 4, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the front door had been forced open and that 12 necklaces, a pendant, earrings and an iPad were missing, according to police.
A PRIEST at Saint Francis Borgia Church, 8033 W. Addison St., reported that shoes and clothing were stolen from an outside donation box between 7:30 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. Saturday, July 5, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 5200 block of West Irving Park Road was burglarized between 9:30 a.m. and 2:10 p.m. Friday, July 4, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the back door had been forced open and that an Xbox video game console valued at $600 and an iPad valued at $400 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his home in the 4800 block of West Pensacola Avenue was burglarized between 3 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, and 4 p.m. Friday, June 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that a snow blower valued at $860 was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN was arrested at about 7:25 p.m. Friday, July 4, after she allegedly shoplifted an item from Cardinal Liquors, 3501 N. Central Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee reported that he saw the woman leave the store with a bottle of cognac valued at $30.52, and the suspect was later arrested, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Kristina Simkus, age 27, of the 3500 block of North Linder Avenue.
A WOMAN reported that her purse was stolen at about 11:20 a.m. Thursday, July 3, in the 3500 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 53-year-old woman reported that a man engaged her in a conversation as she was waiting for a bus when, and that when the bus arrived, the man took her purse containing house keys, insurance cards, a credit card and identification and entered the bus, according to police. The woman said that the driver of the bus would not let her onto the bus without paying the fare, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 4800 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue was burglarized between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that his wallet containing $1,500 in cash, digital videodisc movies, a laptop computer, and shoes and hats were missing, according to police.
