Local Crime from 16th District 8-13-14
A WOMAN REPORTED that she was robbed at about 12:55 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, in the 5000 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 44-year-old woman reported that as she was walking under the railroad viaduct on Milwaukee, a man sitting on a ledge asked her for the time, according to police. The woman said that when she opened her purse to retrieve her cell phone, the man displayed a knife and took her wallet containing $60, an Illinois state identification card, an Illinois Link card and a debit card, police said.
TWO WOMEN reported that they were the victims of a scam at about 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, in the 5100 block of West Hutchinson Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The women, age 89 and 90, reported that three men came to their home and talked them into having cement work done, and that two of the men entered the home and caused a distraction, according to police. One of the women said that she saw a man leave her bedroom and questioned him, and that the men fled the house, police said. The other woman said that she discovered that her diamond ring was missing from her bedroom, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 12:45 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, in the 5700 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 74-year-old woman reported that a man approached her and grabbed the gold chain from her neck, and that she tried to hold on to the chain, yelled for help and punched the man repeatedly in the chest, according to police. The woman said that she found half of her chain on the ground as the man fled into an alley on a bicycle, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, in the 5600 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 72-year-old woman reported that a man riding a bicycle approached her and grabbed a gold necklace from around her neck, according to police.
A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly threatened a teenager with a knife at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at Oriole Park, 5430 N. Olcott Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 13-year-old teen reported that when he told a man to stop harassing a group of younger children, the man displayed a knife and threatened him with it, according to police. The park supervisor reported that he called police after the teen told him about the incident, according to police.
The suspect identified himself to police as Mike Brown, age 18, of no known address.
THE OWNER of Mr. Zee’s, 3956 N. Narragansett Ave., reported that the restaurant was burglarized between 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, and 6 a.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he arrived at the restaurant he discovered that the front-door window was broken and that a deli slicer, two scales and two laptop computers were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his home in the 4400 block of North Lavergne Avenue was burglarized between 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, and 8 a.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that the entry door to the garage had been knocked down and that a television set valued at $1,700 was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his car was burglarized between 5 and 7 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, while it was parked in the 4700 block of North Laporte Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that three framing guns, an air compressor, two circular saws and a power saw were missing from the van, according to police.
