Local Crime from 16th District 8-20-14
A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly displayed a gun at about 4:25 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, in the 5400 block of North Harlem Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 26-year-old man and several witnesses reported that a man became upset when he was asked to leave the Taco Burrito King restaurant, 5457 N. Harlem Ave., according to police. Witnesses reported that as the man was leaving he heard the 26-year-old man make a comment that he assumed was an insult and punched him, police said.
The 26-year-old man reported that during a scuffle the man pointed a gun at him, which he knocked out of his hand, according to police. Witnesses held the man for police, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Jermin M. Becanovic, age 26, of the 5400 block of North Octavia Avenue.
A MAN WAS arrested on assault charges following an incident at about 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, in the 5100 block of North Elston Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 48-year-old man reported that as he was driving on Elston, a passenger got out of another car and threw a cinder block at his windshield, causing damage, according to police. The man said that when he followed the other vehicle, the car stopped and the same man attempted to open his door and threatened to kill him, police said.
Following an investigation the man was placed into custody at his home, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Anthony J. Castro, age 34, of the 6300 block of West Berwyn Avenue.
A MAN REPORTED that he was attacked at about 3 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, in the 6600 block of North Northwest Highway, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 27-year-old man reported that a man struck him with a bottle in the right eye, according to police. The man was treated at Resurrection Medical Center, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 4:45 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, in an alley in the 4800 block of West Cullom Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 26-year-old man reported that he met a man at Primary Nightclub, 5 W. Division St., and that they took a ride-sharing service to Cicero and Cullom avenues, according to police. The man said that as they were walking in the alley, the man pushed him to the ground and took his purse containing credit cards and a cell phone, then punched him in the face and fled, police said.
A MAN WAS arrested on public indecency charges following an incident at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, in the 7400 block of West Balmoral Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 20-year-old woman reported that she saw a man stop his vehicle near her and masturbate, according to police. The woman said that she walked to the Oriole Park Library and reported the incident to the staff, who called police, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Justin Ross Hoffman, age 20, of the 7700 block of West Rascher Avenue.
A WOMAN reported that a teenager took her cell phone valued at $700 at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at the Jefferson Park CTA terminal, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 27-year-old woman reported that a teen on a bicycle took her cell phone, according to police.
A MAN WAS arrested on theft charges at about 3:20 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at the Jewel-Osco store, 7342 W. Foster Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee reported that he saw the man place 21 packages of disposable razors valued at $555.31 into a plastic bag and leave the store without paying for the items, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Brian Pierson, age 29, of the 0-100 block of Woodstock Avenue, Clarendon Hills.
THREE VEHICLES were set on fire at about 2 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, in the 4800 block of West Cornelia Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A MAN REPORTED that a man broke two windows at the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, 5009 N. Northwest Hwy., at about 6:10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that two windows on the northwest side of the church were broken, according to police. A surveillance video shows a man shatter the windows, police said.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 3200 block of North Major Avenue was burglarized between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that her son told her that when he returned home he discovered that the side door had been forced open and three watches, two rings, a laptop computer and a Play Station 4 video game console were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 3800 block of North Harlem Avenue was burglarized between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that three gold chains were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5600 block of West Leland Avenue was burglarized between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the front door had been damaged and that a laptop computer valued at $460, clothing valued at $80 and diamond earrings valued at $4,900 were missing, according to police.
