Local Crime from 16th District 9-17-14
A MAN REPORTED that he was attacked at about 5:40 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, in the 5400 block of West Gale Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 39-year-old man reported that about 10 to 12 men got out of a black Cadillac Escalade and a black Jeep Wrangler and punched and kicked him and beat him with bats, according to police. The man was treated for a broken arm and head lacerations, police said.
A WOMAN reported that two men attempted to steal her purse at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, in the 5000 block of North Leclaire Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 61-year-old woman reported that the men circled her with their bicycles and that one of them tried to steal her purse but that she hit him with her umbrella and both men fled, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that a relative of his was abducted, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he received a phone call at about 8:45 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, and that the caller told him they had abducted his relative and wanted $4,000, according to police. The man said the caller told him that his relative was involved in a car accident with the caller’s relative and that they would keep him until the money was paid or they would harm him, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 2:40 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, in the 3200 block of North Long Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 20-year-old man reported that two men approached him and that one of them displayed a handgun and demanded money, according to police. The man said that after he told them he did not have any money, one of the men knocked him to the ground and took $350 from him, police said.
A MAN WAS arrested following a reported robbery at about 1:40 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at the CTA Jefferson Park Blue Line station, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 50-year-old man reported that the man attacked him and stole his cell phone, and that a witness pulled the attacker off him and the man fled, according to police. The witness identified the suspect as his attacker when he returned to the scene, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Daniel G. Morris, age 20, of the 2600 block of South 59th Street, Berwyn.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 7000 block of West Devon Avenue was burglarized between 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, and 12:20 a.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that a window was open and that three necklaces valued at $1,550 and $380 in cash were missing, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE reported that three people shoplifted items from the Walgreens store, 6310 N. Nagle Ave., at about 9:40 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that two men and a woman took eight bottles of alcohol valued at a total of $217 and left the store without paying for the items, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 3900 block of North Nordica Avenue was burglarized between 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, and 2:30 a.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that her bedroom window was open and that three chains valued at $550 and two rings valued at $350 were missing, according to police.
