Local Crime from 16th District 9-20-17
A MAN WAS arrested on attempted robbery and drugs charges at about 3:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, in the 6200 block of North Nordica Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An officer saw a man with his face covered by clothing looking at the 7-Eleven store, 6200 N. Sayre Ave, which had recently been robbed by a man fitting his description, according to police.
Officers approached the man and asked for his identification and as they were searching him the man ran away and after a chase they caught him, police said. Officers found five plastic bags with a substance suspected of being cocaine or drug residue in his wallet, and they recovered a large kitchen knife near the scene that the man dropped before police approached him, according to police. Police said that the man and the weapon fit the description of at least six convenience store robberies that occurred recently, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Phillip A. Olsen, age 27, of the 6900 block of West Hobart Avenue.
A MAN WAS arrested after allegedly fired a gun at about noon Friday, Sept. 15, in the 5800 block of West Warwick Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 45-year-old man reported that he observed two men fighting in front of a home for possession of a gun, and that one man eventually wrestled control and fired three shots in the air while another man emerged from the home with a handgun and pointed it at the now-unarmed man, according to police. The 45-year-old man reported that two more shots were fired at the man and that the man fled in his maroon-colored vehicle, police said.
Officers came to the house and a 31-year-old man answered the door holding a.357 caliber revolver, which he dropped when ordered to do so, and that they also recovered a BB gun and several hundred grams of a substance suspected of being marijuana in the house, according to police. The man told police that he was defending himself, police said.
The man was identified by police as Joel Tobar, age 31, of the 5800 block of West Warwick Avenue.
THE MOTHER of a 9-year-old boy reported that a man attempted to lure him at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, in the 6200 block of North Leona Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 49-year-old mother of the 9-year-old boy reported that he was biking down the street when a man driving a car followed him and repeatedly yelled at the boy to enter the vehicle, according to police. The woman reported that when the boy returned and described the incident, they searched the area and identified what they believed to be the man’s vehicle a few blocks south, a silver Ford Crown Victoria sedan, according to police.
The man was described as Asian/Pacific Islander, age 20 to 30, and heavyset, with a dark complexion and a twist in his hair.
A MAN WAS stabbed at about 1:15 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, in the 4100 block of North Long Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 55-year-old man reported that he was walking on the sidewalk when three men approached him and one pointed a gun at him and demanded his belongings, according to police. The man reported that the men punched and kicked him and one of them stabbed him before searching him and finding no proceeds in his pockets, police said. The man was treated at Illinois Masonic Hospital for stab wounds in the back and stomach, according to police.
TWO WOMEN reported that they were robbed at gunpoint at about 1 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, in the 4400 block of North Mango Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The women, age 34 and 35, reported that they were sitting in a parked car when three teenagers, one armed with a knife and one with a silver handgun, approached them, and demanded that they exit the car and give up their belongings, according to police. The 34-year-old woman reported that she handed them a purse containing a cell phone, a wallet with credit and identification cards, a U.S. passport, keys and $80 in cash, police said.
A DELIVERY driver reported that he was robbed at about 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, in the 3500 block of North New England Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 58-year-old man reported that he was delivering food to a man when two other men knocked him to the ground and all three men punched him and took the food, according to police.
Police officers on patrol found two people matching a description and placed them into custody, police said. It is not known if they were charged as of press time, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE of Walgreens, 4343 N. Central Ave., reported that the store was robbed at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 29-year-old woman reported that a man waited for the checkout line to clear and then demanded she give cash in $20 bills, before she gave him $140 in cash from the register, according to police.
The man was described as white, age 20s, approximately 5-10 to 6-0 and 160 to 200 pounds, with a close-cut beard and wearing light brown khaki pants and a bright yellow hooded sweatshirt over a dark baseball cap.
A WOMAN reported that her house in the 4800 block of West Byron Street was burglarized at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 13, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the rear door had been broken and that an Xbox 360 video gaming console, three watches, a black bag, $600 in cash and a 60-inch and a 36-inch television set were missing, according to police.
