Local Crime from 17th District 10-4-14
A WOMAN reported that a man fired shots at her car at about 1 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, while it was parked in the 3500 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 23-year-old woman reported that three men approached her car and spoke to a 23-year-old man who was seated in the rear of the vehicle about a gang, and that the men walked away from the car and one of them fired several shots, striking the trunk and shattering the rear window, according to police. The two passengers who were reported in the car were not present when officers arrived, police said.
AN EMPLOYEE reported that the Shell gas station, 5155 N. Kimball Ave., was robbed at about 6:15 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28.
The 30-year-old man reported that a man displayed a handgun, ordered him to the floor and took $600 from the cash register and nine cartons of cigarettes valued at $1,080, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 12:40 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29 in the 4400 block of West Addison Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 28-year-old woman reported that a man approached her, grabbed her purse from her shoulder, took her Samsung cell phone from the purse and fled, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, in the 5600 block of North Spaulding Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 30-year-old man reported that two men approached him and one of them asked to use his phone, and that when he handed it over, they both punched him and one of them took his wallet, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that a man broke into her home in the 4900 block of North Lawndale Avenue and attacked her at about 2 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 30-year-old woman reported that when she returned home she discovered a man in the house who forced her to the floor and held a machete to her throat, and that she fought off the man and he fled, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 6000 block of North Saint Louis Avenue was burglarized between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the front door had been forced open and that earrings, a gold pin, miscellaneous jewelry and $200 in cash were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 3300 block of North Karlov Avenue was burglarized between 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20, and 2:30 a.m. the following day, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the front door had been forced open and that a Sony Play Station 4 video game console valued at $500 and 21 video games were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 3700 block of West Leland Avenue was burglarized between 9 a.m. and noon Thursday, Sept. 30, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the front door had been forced open and that a Twinstone hat valued at $300, a cell phone valued at $300 and $700 in cash were missing, according to police.
A HOME IN the 6100 block of North Kimball Avenue was burglarized at about noon Wednesday, Oct. 1, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
Officers who responded to a burglary alarm discovered that a rear door a window was unlocked, and the resident’s brother reported that a chain was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 4400 block of North Saint Louis Avenue was burglarized between 6 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the front and back door had been forced open and that a laptop computer valued at $2,300, a tablet computer valued at $300, jewelry valued at $5,000 and three hats valued at $30 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 4200 block of West Roscoe Street was burglarized at about 9:25 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 while he and his roommate were at work, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that his roommate discovered that the front door had been pried open and that a safe containing a .40 caliber handgun and $300 in cash were missing, according to police.
LINCOLNWOOD
A WOMAN reported that a vacant home in the 6500 block of North Christiana Avenue was burglarized between noon Sunday, Sept. 19, and 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, according to Lincolnwood police.
The woman reported that she discovered that graffiti had been painted on the walls in the basement and that a washer, a dryer, cabinets, a refrigerator and light fixtures were missing and that the walls were damaged, according to police. The damage was estimated at $10,000 to $15,000, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that items were stolen from his vehicle between 11 p.m. Friday, Sept 24, and 7:15 a.m. the following day while it was parked in the 3700 block of West North Shore Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
The man reported that he discovered that a wallet containing $50 in cash, a driver’s license and a debit card were missing, according to police.
A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly shoplifted an item from the Kohl’s store in the Lincolnwood Town Center, 3333 W. Touhy Ave., at about 12:10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, at according to Lincolnwood police.
An employee reported that he saw the man place a box of jewelry valued at $100 in his pocket and leave the store without paying for it, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as David Aviles, age 62, of the 3800 block of North Christiana Avenue.
A MAN WAS charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following his arrest at about 1:10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, in the 4400 block of West Devon Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
An officer stopped a car that was weaving and the driver was arrested after the officer smelled the odor of alcohol on his breath and he failed sobriety tests, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Marlon A. Mendez, age 39, of the 3200 block of West 64th Street.
A MAN WAS charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following his arrest at about 9:25 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, in the 4200 block of West Devon Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
An officer stopped a car that failed to stop at red light, and the driver was arrested after the officer saw open beer bottles on the back seat of the vehicle and the driver failed sobriety tests and a breath test resulted in a blood alcohol content of 0.169, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Bhagyesh H. Patel, age 33, of the 1900 block of Fountain Grass Circle, Bartlett.
