Local Crime from 17th District 12-2-17
A WOMAN WAS shot at about 10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 23, in the 4700 block of West Warwick Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of a person shot and discovered a 24-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her upper back in the street, and three men who were with her reported that the woman had been hit by gunfire from a white Jeep that drove southbound on West Cicero Avenue, according to police.
A witness reported that she saw three men and a woman involved in an altercation with another man and that he shot a handgun toward the men and the woman before he fled, according to police.
The woman was admitted to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition and treated for a gunshot wound, police said.
A TEACHER reported that she was robbed at about 10:25 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, in the 3500 block of West Ardmore Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 56-year-old woman reported that after she exited her vehicle and began walking toward Northeastern Illinois University, 5500 N. St. Louis Ave., a man and a woman approached her and the man took a Vera Bradley bag valued at $250 containing credit cards and a leather work bag containing keys to the university from her as he knocked her to the ground, and that while she was struggling with the man, he told the woman to take her bag and run before they both ran away with them, according to police.
The man and the woman were described as black and age 18 to 24.
A WOMAN reported that a man attempted to rob her at about 6:15 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, in the 3100 block of West Lawrence Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 51-year-old woman reported that while she was waiting for a bus, a man attacked her from behind and dragged her toward an alley as he demanded her purse and jewelry, and that as she was kicking and screaming for help, a witness scared the man and he ran away, according to police.
The woman was treated at Swedish Covenant Hospital, police said.
A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly attacked a woman and broke into her residence in the 5100 block of North Kilbourn Avenue at about 1:35 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
An 85-year-old woman reported that she heard a knock on her door and that when she opened it, a man pushed her aside and entered her home, and that when she told the man to leave, he pushed her head toward the front door, according to police.
The woman reported that after she exited her residence, she stopped a driver in the street for help and when they approached her home, they saw through the screen door that the man was sleeping on her couch, police said.
The man was arrested after officers woke him up and he allegedly said that he "had been partying" and that he did not know where he was, according to police. Officers discovered that the man’s vehicle was parked outside the residence with his friend in the driver’s seat in possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police.
Further information on possible criminal charges was not available as of press time.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26, in the 4400 block of North Lawndale Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 53-year-old woman reported that while she was walking, two men approached her from behind and that one of the men grabbed her by her neck, threw her to the ground and took her purse containing two iPhones, a debit card and $25 in cash, according to police.
The first man was described as black, age 16 to 20 with a dreadlock hairstyle, and the second man was described as white or Hispanic, age 16 to 20.
A WOMAN reported that a man robbed her mother at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, in the 3800 block of West Leland Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 46-year-old woman reported that she and her 72-year-old mother were unloading groceries in the hallway of their apartment building, and when she left her mother with groceries on the first floor while she carried groceries up to the third floor, she heard her mother scream for help, according to police. The woman reported that when she returned to her mother, she discovered that a man had entered the hallway, pulled her mother to the ground by her hair, took her purse containing a cell phone, $100 in cash and identification cards and then punched her in the face, police said.
The woman’s mother was transported to Swedish Covenant Hospital and treated for minor injuries, according to police.
The man was described as black or Hispanic, age 17 to 19, 5-7 and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 10:10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, in the 4100 block of North Kimball Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 19-year-old woman reported that while she was standing in front of the gate to her residence, a man approached her, punched her on the right side of her face and reached for her neck and took a 14-karat gold necklace from her neck, according to police.
The man was described as Asian, age 20 to 25, 5-6 and wearing a black jacket and a red knit hat.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, in the 4700 block of North Central Park Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 65-year-old woman reported that while she was walking, two men attacked her from behind and knocked her to the ground, and that one of the men took her purse containing a cell phone, according to police.
The men were described as white or Hispanic, age 15 to 18, 5-5 to 5-6 and 125 to 145 pounds.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 6:50 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26, in the 4100 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 61-year-old man reported that after he exited a bus, three men approached him and one of them pointed a pocket knife at him and demanded money and took his iPhone 7 valued at $800 and $40 in cash, according to police said.
The three men were described as black, age 16 to 20 and wearing black hooded sweatshirts.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 4700 block of North Lawndale Avenue was burglarized between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that $2,790 in cash and three bottles of perfume valued at $100 were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 4900 block of North Lowell Avenue was burglarized between 4:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that a kitchen window and the rear door had been opened, and that jewelry valued at $2,000 was missing, according to police.
