Local Crime from 17th District 1-5-18
A MAN WAS fatally wounded at about 2:20 a.m. Monday, Jan. 1, in the 3900 block of West Cornelia Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
Police responded to a call of a man injured during a traffic crash and firefighters discovered that the man was unresponsive in his automobile and that he had a gunshot wound to his left scapula, according to police. The man was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and pronounced deceased at 2:46 a.m., police said.
The man was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as Janusz C. Kolodziejczyk, age 51, of the 6900 block of West Belmont Avenue. His death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner said.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, inside the garage of his home in the 5700 block of North Christiana Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 78-year-old man reported that as he was driving his vehicle out of his garage, a man entered the garage, pointed a semi-automatic handgun at his face and demanded money and took his wallet containing credit cards, his driver’s license and $60 in cash from him before he fled northbound through the adjacent alley, according to police.
The man was described as Hispanic, age 20 to 25 and between 5-5 and 5-10.
A MAN WAS charged with attempted armed robbery with a handgun following his arrest at about 8:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, in the 4600 block of North Monticello Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A 30-year-old man reported that while he was sitting in his vehicle waiting for his girlfriend, two men entered his vehicle and a man wearing a black ski mask pointed a handgun at him while he demanded him to drive and give him his money, according to police.
Officers saw a vehicle double-parked on the street that started to drive away and that when it stopped at a stop sign, they saw a passenger in the front seat allegedly hitting the driver, and that when they activated their emergency lights and approached them, the driver exited the vehicle with his hands in the air and said, "He’s got a gun," police said.
The officers reported that the passenger then crawled out of the driver’s side door, exited the vehicle and ran away west, and the man was arrested after the officers chased and caught him in the 3600 block of West Leland Avenue and they discovered a black replica handgun inside the vehicle, police said.
An officer reported that while they were chasing the man, he saw another man exit the vehicle and that he lost sight of him after he ran away westbound, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Thomas Elliot, age 42, of the 3900 block of North Elston Avenue.
The second man was described as 25 to 30 years old, between 5-8 and 5-10 and 160 to 180 pounds.
AN EMPLOYEE of U-Haul Moving and Storage, 4301 N. Cicero Ave., reported that a man threatened him with a handgun at about 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 40-year-old employee reported that a customer became angry after he inspected a trailer he was going to rent and discovered its brake lights were not working, and that during an argument, the man pushed him to the ground, lifted up his shirt to display a blue steel handgun and said, "What are you going to do about it," before he entered a gray 4-door Jeep automobile and drove away, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 12:50 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, in the 4600 block of North Hamlin Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 32-year-old man reported that while he was shoveling snow, two men approached him and one of them pointed a handgun at him and demanded money and took $90 in cash, according to police.
The men were described as white, age 25 to 30, about 5-8 and 160 pounds and wearing blue hooded jackets and blue jeans.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 11 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, in the 4600 block of North Springfield Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 42-year-old man reported that while he was cleaning the floor mats to his vehicle, two men approached him and asked for money, and that one of the men pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at him and took $100 in cash, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that a she was threatened at about 4:35 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, in the 3500 block of North Elston Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 32-year-old woman reported that while she was driving her vehicle, another driver drove into her parking space, and that when she confronted the man, he pointed a black object at her that she believed to be pepper spray and said, "What are you going to do about it," and she drove away, according to police.
TWO MEN reported that they were robbed at about 12:40 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, in the 4600 block of North Monticello Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 31-year-old man and 40-year-old man reported that two men approached them and that one of the men pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at them while the men forced them sit on their front porch and remove their shoes and empty their pockets before they took a cell phone and $150 in cash from them before they fled, according to police.
The men were described as white, age 25 to 28, between 5-7 and 5-9, between 170 and 185 pounds and wearing black knit hats, black hooded jackets and blue jeans, and one of the suspects was wearing a black ski mask.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 5:05 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, in the 4000 block of West Waveland Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 27-year-old man reported that while he was walking on the sidewalk, two men approached him and one of them pointed a handgun at him and took his wallet valued at $10 containing credit cards, identification cards, his social security card and $80 in cash, according to police.
One of the men was described as Hispanic, age 20 to 25 and wearing a gray hooded jacket and a black jacket, blue jeans and Timberland boots, police said. No description was provided of the second man.
A MAN REPORTED he was robbed at about 1:20 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, in the 4400 block of North Bernard Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 55-year-old man reported that after he exited his vehicle, he saw three men hiding in an alley and as he was walking to his residence, two of the men approached him and one of them grabbed him by the collar of his jacket and demanded money while the other man reached into his pocket, took his wallet and removed $200 in cash, according to police.
Two of the men were described as white/Hispanic, age 20 to 25, between 5-7 and 5-11 and between 160 to 180 pounds, and the third man was described as white, age 25 to 30 and between 170 and 190 pounds.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 3900 block of North Kedzie Avenue was burglarized at about 2 a.m. Monday, Jan. 1, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that a side door had been broken in and that an Apple MacBook laptop computer valued at $1,200 was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 3400 block of West Ainslie Street was burglarized at about 6:50 a.m. Monday, Jan. 1, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home, she discovered that a door had been damaged and that $525 in cash was missing, according to police.
LINCOLNWOOD
TWO MEN WERE arrested on drug charges at about 6:15 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, in the 4800 block of Pratt Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on a Chrysler minivan after it made a turn without utilizing a signal and the driver had a revoked driver’s license, and the driver and passenger were arrested after they gave conflicting statements about their whereabouts and found a cigarette pack containing three glass smoking pipes and two plastic bags containing a white powder suspected of being heroin, according to police. Officers found nine additional plastic bags containing 7.55 grams of suspected marijuana at the police station, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Dominique Jenkins, age 31, of the 19000 block of Glenwood Drive, Chicago Heights, and Joseph Drake, age 37, of the 200 block of Belle Drive, Northlake.
A MAN WAS charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following his arrest at about 2:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 1, in the 7200 block of McCormick Boulevard, according to Lincolnwood police.
Officers responded to call reporting a possible drunk driver in a 2013 Dodge Avenger and stopped the vehicle on McCormick after observing him swerving and turning into the wrong lane, according to police. The man was arrested after he failing field sobriety tests, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Andrew Perez, age 26, of the 1600 block of West Glenlake Avenue, Lincolnwood.
