Local Crime from 17th District 2-18-17
A MAN WAS fatally shot at about 5:35 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in the 4000 block of West Melrose Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A 22-year-old woman reported that as she was walking with the victim, two men got out of a vehicle and asked their gang affiliation, according to police. The woman said that the victim responded that they are not gang members and that they ran when one of the men displayed a handgun, and she heard two shots fired while they were running, police said.
The man, who was shot in the lower back, was pronounced dead at Illinois Masonic Hospital, according to police.
The victim was identified by police as Maximiliano J. Arroyo, age 24, of the 4200 block of West Melrose Street.
A TEENAGER was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon following his arrest at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Roosevelt High School, 3436 W. Wilson Ave., according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A Chicago Public Schools security officer reported that the 15-year-old male student set off the metal detector as he entered school and that he discovered an 8-inch throwing star in his possession, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was attacked and robbed at about 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, in the 3700 block of North Spaulding Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 55-year-old man reported that two men grabbed him from behind, pulled him to the ground and took his wallet containing $200, according to police.
A man reported that he was robbed at about 11:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, in the 4000 block of West Cullom Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 50-year-old man reported that three men approached him from an alley and that one of the men displayed a handgun and took $4 from him, according to police.
TWO MEN reported that they were robbed at about 11:25 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, in the 4000 block of North Spaulding Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The two 23-year-old men reported that two men approached them from an alley, pushed them against a building and asked their gang affiliation, and that one of the men displayed a handgun and the two took cigarettes, a cell phone and a wallet before the men ordered them to run away, according to police. The men said that they heard one shot fired from the weapon as they ran from the scene, police said.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, in the 3400 block of West Montrose Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 18-year-old woman reported that a man approached her from behind, pressed a handgun to her back and took her backpack valued at $40 containing a camera valued at $250, a Bluetooth speaker valued at $20, books valued at $100 and a cell phone charger valued at $20, two rings valued at $110 and $15 in cash, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that his van was burglarized between 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, and 4:55 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, while it was parked in the 6900 block of North Kolmar Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
The man reported that he discovered that a vent window was missing and that a drill valued at $500, a drill set valued at $350, a hammer drill valued at $300 and a drill valued at $300 were missing, according to police.
