Local Crime from 17th District 3-15-18
SHOTS were fired at about 6 a.m. Sunday, March 11, in the 4300 block of North Avers Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
Four men reported that a red four-door sedan approached them and that the driver pointed a handgun at them, asked them if they were in a gang and then fired two or three shots toward them, according to police. Officers found two spent bullet casings and discovered bullet fragments in a building, police said.
The man was described as white or Hispanic, age 20 to 25, with a slight beard, and wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 6:30 a.m. Sunday, March 11, in the 3400 block of West Wilson Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 28-year-old man reported that as he was walking a grey Jeep stopped and three men exited and approached demanding his belongings, and a man pointed a handgun to his head, and that he gave them his iPhone and wallet containing a driver’s license, a credit card and about $40 in cash, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE of the J&P Fine Food and Meats store, 3501 W. Montrose Ave., reported that the store was robbed at gunpoint at about 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The employee reported that three men entered the store, that two men pointed handguns to his face and demanded money and that the third man went behind the counter and hit him in the back of his head with another handgun, and that he gave the men a cash register tray containing about $3,200 in cash before they drove away south on Saint Louis Avenue and east on Cullom Avenue in a silver four-door hatchback, according to police
All three men were described as age 20 to 25, with brown eyes, and wearing black gloves or mittens. One man was further described as black, about 6-0 to 6-1 and 170 to 180 pounds, and wearing black pants and a black hooded sweatshirt with a white Adidas logo. Another man was described as white/Hispanic, about 5-4 to 5-5 and 160 to 170 pounds, with short black hair, and wearing a tan jacket and light blue pants. The third man was further described as black, about 5-7 to 5-8 and 170 to 180 pounds, and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.
AN EMPLOYEE of Mona Food Mart, 3334 W. Lawrence Ave., reported that a man tried to rob the store at gunpoint at about 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The employee reported that he was ringing up a man at the counter for a gallon of milk when the man pointed a handgun at him and demanded money, and that when he refused to give up any cash the man fired a shot into the west wall of the store before fleeing north on Christiana Avenue, according to police.
The man was described as Hispanic, age 25 to 30, about 5-9 to 6-1 and 180 to 200 pounds, and wearing a puffy blue coat, dark blue jeans, dark colored winter gloves and white gym shoes.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 5:15 a.m. Sunday, March 11, in the 4600 block of North Francisco Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 39-year-old man reported that he was walking to the CTA Francisco Brown Line station, 4649 N. Francisco Ave., when five men exited a dark-colored sport utility vehicle and approached him and one of them pointed a handgun to his head and that they took $14 in cash, according to police.
All five men were described as white/Hispanic, age 17 to 20 and wearing dark blue jeans. The armed man was further described as wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt and white gym shoes. The man who threw the bottle was further described as wearing a black jacket, a grey hooded sweatshirt and a dark blue bandana. Another man was further described as wearing a black jacket, red hooded sweatshirt and black gym shoes, and a fourth man as wearing a dark blue coat, dark blue hooded sweatshirt, dark blue bandana and black gym shoes.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 8:45 p.m. Saturday, March 10, in the 3900 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 55-year-old man reported that he was waiting for a bus when three men approached, one of whom pointed a handgun at him and demanded belongings and took his cell phone and wallet containing debit and transit cards, a driver’s license and about $380 in cash, and that when he tried to ride away on his blue mountain bike but that the men took the bike also, according to police.
COMMUTERS reported that a man threatened them with a knife at about 10 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, on a train near the CTA Irving Park Blue Line Station, 4131 W. Irving Park Road, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A 25-year-old woman reported that a man had masturbated in front of her while on the train and that she left the train at the Irving Park stop, according to police. A 21-year-old woman and two men age 26 and 47 reported that they confronted the man about the act when he then brandished a black switchblade, and the two men reported that they chased the man as he left the train and ran east on Avondale Avenue and south on Pulaski Road before he got away, according to police.
The man was described as black, age 25 to 30, about 6-0 to 6-2 and 180 to 190 pounds, with black hair, and wearing blue jeans and an orange hooded sweatshirt.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 5:40 a.m. Sunday, March 11, in the 3300 block of West Lawrence Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 51-year-old man reported that he was walking to the CTA Kimball Brown Line station, 4755 N. Kimball Ave., when a man approached from between two vehicles and demanded his belongings and that another man put a knife to his back and said "If you scream I will stab you and don’t look at any of us," and that a third man punched him in the head before and they took his wallet containing debit and foreign identification cards and about $120 in cash and then ran away, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that she was attacked at about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, in the 3800 block of West School Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 19-year-old woman reported that a man struck her in the head and pulled her to the ground, and as he was attempting to take her phone an 18-year-old man saw the incident and yelled and the man ran away, according to police. The woman was treated at Community First Hospital for minor injuries, police said.
The man was described as white/Hispanic, about age 30, approximately 6-1 and 225 pounds and wearing a grey or black hooded sweatshirt.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 2 a.m. Saturday, March 10, in the 2900 block of West Grace Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 40-year-old man reported that two men approached him and that one punched him in the face while the other man took his backpack containing headphones and a laptop computer valued at $1,430 total and his phone and wallet containing credit cards, a driver’s license and about $200 in cash, according to police.
The men were both described as white and about 5-7 to 5-9 and 140 to 160 pounds.
A TEENAGER reported that he was robbed in an apparent gang-related incident at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, March 11, in the 4300 block of North Bernard Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 16-year-old male reported that he was walking home when an older-model black four-door car pulled up and the driver asked if he was in a gang and exited, punched him in the back of his head and took his phone from his hand before driving away north on Bernard, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE of the 7-Eleven store, 4346 N. Kimball Ave., reported that the business was robbed at about 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The employee reported that a man walked in and demanded money and that he pulled out the cash register drawer and the man took $50 in cash and ran away, according to police.
The man was described as white, age 20 to 25, approximately 6-0 and 180 pounds, and wearing blue jeans and a grey hooded sweatshirt pulled over his hands and face.
A MAN REPORTED that his apartment in the 4400 block of North Saint Louis Avenue was burglarized between 6 a.m. Saturday, March 10, and 9:30 a.m. the following day, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that his roommate’s laptop computer valued at $2,500 was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 5000 block of North Kilbourn Avenue was burglarized between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the front door was opened and that jewelry valued at $3,000 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 4800 block of North Spaulding Avenue was burglarized between 12:45 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered the front door had been forced open and that jewelry valued at $12,000 and $3,300 in cash were missing, according to police.
LINCOLNWOOD
THREE MEN were arrested on drug charges at about 7:15 p.m. Thursday, March 8, in the 3900 block of West Touhy Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
Officers saw a 2011 Toyota Camry changing lanes without signaling and without a functioning rear license plate light and conducted a traffic stop in the 3900 block of Touhy, and the driver was unable to provide valid insurance, according to police. Officers smelled suspected marijuana and the three men were arrested after officers found in the car six plastic bags containing more than 41 grams of a substance suspected of being marijuana and 42 plastic bags containing more than 57 grams of a substance suspected of being cocaine, and $1,146, according to police.
The suspects were identified by police as Muhammad Khan, age 24, of the 6100 block of North Seeley Avenue, Muhammad Latif, age 19, of the 6300 block of North Rockwell Street and Salman Shaheen, age 24, of the 9500 block of Terrace Place, Des Plaines.
