Local Crime from 17th District 3-28-18
A MAN WAS charged with attempted aggravated kidnapping of a minor following his arrest at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, at a business in the 3600 block of West Montrose Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man allegedly followed an 11-year-old girl into a retail establishment, helped her place items on the cashiers’ counter and put his hand around her insisting she accompany him out of the store, according to police. Police said that the cashier had asked the girl if the man was with her and she replied no, and that the cashier and other bystanders thought the situation seemed improper, called police, and held the man on scene until he was arrested.
The suspect was identified by police as Gary Powell, age 27, of the 2700 block of North Kedvale Avenue.
SHOTS were fired at about 9:45 p.m. Sunday, March 25, in the 4500 block of North Christiana Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of shots fired and discovered a 9 mm handgun with 13 live rounds on the ground in the alley and four spent .40-cal bullet casings and another spent bullet casing of a different type, according to police.
SHOTS were fired at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24, in an alley in the 4500 block of North Whipple Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A 27-year-old woman reported that a man and a woman knocked on her front door with the woman saying "we want to talk to you about the car accident," that she replied "what accident" and closed the door, and that the man then said "open the door or you’ll get shot" and started trying to break down the door, according to police.
The woman reported that she and two roommates ran out into the alley and that the man and woman were waiting at the mouth of the alley in a green Ford F150 pickup truck, that the three roommates then ran into a sport utility vehicle parked in the alley and that the man fired three or four shots at them, hitting nothing, before the man and the woman drove away east on Sunnyside Avenue in the pickup, according to police.
The man was described as white/Hispanic and age 25 to 30. The woman was described as Hispanic with a light skin complexion, age 25 to 30, about 5-1 and 120 pounds, with long black hair.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed in the 4200 block of North Kimball Avenue at about 2:40 p.m. Monday, March 26, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 33-year-old woman reported that two men whom she recognized as neighborhood residents approached her on her porch and said that they were allegedly involved in a shooting several weeks ago and demanded to know what she had seen because her home has security cameras, according to police. The woman reported that one man grabbed her and the other man took her wristwatch, a yellow metal chain and $60 in cash, police said.
One man was described as black, about age 21 to 22 and having black hair. The other man was described as white/Hispanic and about age 31 to 33.
LINCOLNWOOD
A MAN WAS charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following his arrest at about 12:30 a.m. Friday, March 23, in the 4500 block of West Estes Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
Officers saw an Infiniti G35 with the engine running stopped at the intersection of Estes and Kilbourn avenues and saw a man and a woman who appeared to be asleep inside the sedan, according to police. The man was arrested after he failed sobriety tests, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Jesus Fuentes-Ayala, age 22, of the 1300 block of Lizabeth Lane, Waukegan.
