Local Crime from 17th District 5-12-18
A MAN REPORTED that a man threatened him with a gun and attempted to rob him at about 12:45 a.m. Saturday, May 5, in the 3500 block of West Sunnyside Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 32-year-old man reported that he was walking when a blue Dodge Caravan driving the wrong way on Sunnyside Avenue parked in a nearby alley and the driver exited and tackled him, pointed a handgun and demanded money, according to police. The man reported that when he tried to run away the man pushed him down and punched him and that when he tried to grab the gun during the altercation he felt the man pull the trigger without a resulting gunshot, and ran back to the Caravan and drove away south through the alley, according to police. The man was later transported to Swedish Covenant Hospital in good condition, police said.
The man was described as Hispanic with a light brown skin complexion, about age 20, approximately 5-7 and 140 pounds, with brown eyes and short black hair.
A WOMAN reported that two men broke into her home in the 3800 block of North Francisco Avenue at about 4:15 p.m. Monday, May 7, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 85-year-old woman reported that two men rang her rear doorbell and said that they were workers and needed to check the water and that once she opened the door one man knocked her to the ground and held her down as the other man ransacked the home, according to police. The woman reported that the men then left with proceeds and that she was unsure what exactly was taken at the time of the report, according to police.
The man who attacked the woman was described as Hispanic with a medium skin complexion, age 20 to 30, about 5-0 to 5-5, and wearing a maroon T-shirt. The other man was described as Hispanic with a light complexion, age 20 to 30, about 5-0 to 5-5, and wearing a white shirt.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 6:10 a.m. Sunday, May 6, in the 6200 block of North Central Park Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 68-year-old woman reported that she was exiting her car when two men approached her and that one man pointed a handgun at her and demanded her purse in Spanish and that she handed over her purse containing credit, debit and identification cards, a driver’s license, miscellaneous documents, an iPhone and $10,000 in cash before the men walked away south on Central Park Avenue and east on Granville Avenue, according to police. The woman reported that she believed the men may have followed her from her business, and the incident may have been captured on surveillance cameras, police said.
Both men were described as Hispanic with olive-colored skin complexions, age 20 to 30, with brown eyes and short black hair. One man was further described as about 6-1, 180 pounds, and wearing a black baseball cap and black jacket, and the other man as approximately 5-6 and 130 pounds.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 9:45 p.m. Monday, May 7, in the 3700 block of West Ainslie Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 25-year-old man reported that he was sitting in his vehicle when two men approached the driver and passenger side doors and one man pulled him out through the driver’s side of the vehicle, cut his pants pocket and took his vehicle keys and wallet containing debit, social security and insurance cards and a driver’s license, according to police. The man reported that the man opened his trunk and took his cell phone and a bag containing clothing and shoes before the men ran away south on Ridgeway Avenue, according to police.
Both men were described as black, age 25 to 29, approximately 6-0 to 6-2, with short black hair, and wearing black pants.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 11 a.m. Thursday, May 3, in an alley in the 3400 block of West Lawrence Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 35-year-old man reported that two men drove through to him in an alley in a grey van and that one man demanded his belongings and threatened him, and that he handed over a backpack containing several movies and $3 in cash before they drove away west on Lawrence, according to police.
One man was described as white/Hispanic, about age 16 to 17, and approximately 5-7 to 5-8 and 125 to 135 pounds. The other man was described as white/Hispanic, about age 20 to 25, and approximately 5-8 to 5-9 and 175 to 185 pounds.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, in the 4600 block of North Springfield Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 49-year-old woman reported that she parked her car in front of her home when two men approached and demanded her belongings and took her iPhone, and that she screamed for help and her son came out from their house, according to police. The woman reported that her son chased the men south on Avers Avenue and west on Wilson Avenue and that the men threw the purse away in the 4600 block of Avers Avenue and also dropped a pair of car keys that didn’t belong to the woman, police said.
The men were described as white/Hispanic, age 16 to 18, about 5-8 to 5-10 and 150 to 170 pounds. One man was further described as wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and the other as wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.
AN EMPLOYEE of the Walgreens store, 3222 N. Milwaukee Ave., reported that a man took items and threatened to stab him at about 6:45 a.m. Saturday, May 5, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The employee reported that a man waited outside for the store to open and went straight to the pharmacy desk, and when he was told that the pharmacy opened later the man then concealed four probiotic products worth about $120, according to police. The man reported that when he told the man to remove the items from his sweater the man responded in Spanish with expletives, took out two syringes that he claimed were infected with AIDS and threatened to stab him before he knocked more items off shelves and left the store, according to police.
The man was described as Hispanic with a medium brown skin complexion, age 28 to 35, about 5-7 to 6-2 and 145 to 200 pounds, having a physical impairment on his face, and wearing a sweater.
AN EMPLOYEE of the Famous Footwear store, 4630 W. Irving Park Road, reported that three women stole items at about 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The employee reported that three women entered the store and took two pairs of shoes and that one woman saw her call police and pushed her before they all drove west on Irving Park in a dark blue 2007 Nissan Altima, according to police.
The employee reported that she recognized the women from a previous incident on May 2 when another employee reported that the women grabbed shoes off the shelves, and that one of them punched him in the face before they drove away in the Nissan without proceeds, according to police.
The women were described as black.
A WOMAN reported that a man broke into her home in the 4400 block of North Manor Avenue at about 2:10 p.m. Saturday, May 5, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 86-year-old woman reported that she was mowing the lawn when a man approached and refused to leave after she indicated she did not wish to speak to him and that he pushed her and forced both of them into the home, according to police. The woman reported that the man searched a bedroom and ran away without taking anything, according to police.
The man was described as Hispanic with a light brown complexion, age 25 to 30, about 5-10, with brown eyes and black hair, and wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and light blue jeans.
A COUPLE reported that they were the victims of a scam at their home in the 4800 block of North Kildare Avenue at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A 64-year-old man reported that two men exited a white four-door pickup truck and that that one man told him he was a city worker and needed him to help move garbage cans in the rear alley, according to police. The man’s 72-year-old wife reported that after her husband and one of the men finished clearing the cans she discovered that the other man entered the home, moved furniture, damaged a closet door and opened a safe and took numerous pieces of jewelry, according to police.
The men were described as white/Hispanic.
A MAN REPORTED that his apartment in the 5700 block of North Kimball Avenue was burglarized at about 2:10 p.m. Monday, May 7, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that a suitcase with a BB gun, a backpack with fishing gear, a 55-inch television set valued at about $1,600 and a desktop computer valued at about $1,200 were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 5800 block of North Saint Louis Avenue was burglarized between noon and 12:20 p.m. Monday, May 7, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the rear door had been opened and that a credit card and $60 in cash were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 3200 block of West Sunnyside Avenue was burglarized between 7:50 a.m. and 1 p.m. Thursday, May 3, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the front doorframe had been broken and that three gold rings, four gold necklaces, two pairs of gold earrings and $2,500 in cash was missing, according to police.
