Local Crime from 17th District 5-27-17
A MAN WAS shot at about 2:20 a.m. Saturday, May 20, in the 4100 block of North Saint Louis Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of gun shots fired and discovered several shell casings in the street and a 43-year-old man who had been shot inside his vehicle in an alley in the 4100 block of North Bernard Street, according to police. Officers saw that his 18-year-old son was helping him and the son reported that a man approached his father’s vehicle and shot him with a handgun and that his dad drove to the alley on Bernard, police said.
Two witnesses reported that they heard gunshots and observed a man running who was picked up by a dark-colored sports utility, according to police.
The man was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition and treated for serious injuries, police said.
A WOMAN reported that a man attacked her at about 1:10 p.m. Friday, May 19, at her apartment in the 4100 block of North Avers Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 78-year-old woman reported that she heard a noise on the rear porch door and when she opened the door, a man asked her in Spanish if there is an apartment for rent, and that when she told him there was an apartment for rent upstairs, he covered her mouth with his hand, pushed her inside the apartment, punched her in the face and then fled when she started screaming for help, according to police. The woman was transported to Saint Francis Hospital in serious condition, according to police.
EMPLOYEES reported that the Verizon Wireless store, 4183 W. Irving Park Road, was robbed at about 4:15 p.m. Saturday, May 20, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The employees reported that two men entered the store and started looking at cell phones and that when one of them was about to activate a cell phone for a customer, one of the men took the cell phone from her hands while the other man took a cell phone from another employee, according to police. The employees reported that as the men were running toward the exit, one of the men took another cell phone from another employee’s table before they exited the store, police said.
The employees reported that the three cell phones were iPhone 7 Tag models valued at $2,050 and that four customers witnessed the incident, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed following a traffic accident at about 11:35 a.m. Friday, May 19, in the 4700 block of North Elston Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 62-year-old man reported that while he was driving, a black 2003 Pontiac G6 struck the rear of his vehicle and that after he stopped, two women approached him from the car and punched him through the open window, according to police. The man reported that when he pulled off his hooded sweatshirt in an attempt to defend himself, the women took the sweatshirt containing a set of keys before they entered their car and drove away, police said.
The man reported that there was minor damage to the rear of his vehicle from the collision, according to police.
A TEENAGER reported that he was robbed at about 8:35 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, in the 4400 block of North Spaulding Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 17-year-old teenager reported that he was walking to school when a man drove next to him in a black Toyota Camry, exited the vehicle and told him to "run his pockets," and that as he walked away from the man, the man chased him, punched him in his right ear and took his cell phone valued at $350, a second cell phone and $20 in cash before he man entered his car and drove away, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 4100 block of North Avers Avenue was burglarized between 6:10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the rear door was opened and that two tablet computers, a purse, jewelry, two alien registration cards and $60 in cash were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 4700 block of North Central Park Avenue was burglarized between 5:10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, and 8:30 p.m. the following day, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that jewelry valued between $2,000 and $3,000 was missing from a jewelry box, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his apartment in the 3500 block of West Melrose Street was burglarized between 9 a.m. and 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear door had been unlocked and that a watch valued at $500 and a wallet containing a credit card and a state identification card were missing, according to police.
Lincolnwood
A WOMAN WAS charged retail theft following her arrest at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, May 20, after she allegedly shoplifted items from the Carson Pirie Scott store in the Lincolnwood Town Center, 3333 W. Touhy Ave., according to Lincolnwood police.
An employee reported that he saw a woman take jewelry and a multiple items from various departments valued at $1,019, remove the price tags from the items and several items from their packaging, conceal the items in a shopping bag and left the store without paying for the items, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Tamara R. Spero, age 58, of the 3100 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue.
