Local Crime from 17th District 7-14-18
A MAN AND a woman were found deceased at about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, in a garage in the 4100 block of North Mozart Street, according to the Chicago Police Department Office of News Affairs.
The 31-year-old woman and 34-year-old man were discovered deceased in the garage due to an apparent carbon monoxide poisoning from a vehicle left running, according to police. Detectives are investigating, police said.
A WOMAN WAS shot at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, in the 5800 block of North Spaulding Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that she was on a rooftop deck celebrating the holiday and that neighbors were shooting off fireworks when she felt pain and noticed bleeding on her upper right arm, and her father transported her to Swedish Covenant Hospital where doctors discovered a bullet lodged in her arm, according to police.
TWO MEN REPORTED that they were robbed and their car was stolen at gunpoint at about 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, in the 5600 block of North Jersey Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The men, age 39 and 46, reported that they were standing outside the 46-year-old’s white 2013 Toyota Camry parked in a lot when three teenagers approached and one showed a handgun in his waistband, and the other teens demanded cellphones and keys and drove away in the Toyota east on Olive Avenue and south on Kedzie Avenue, according to police.
The teenagers were described as black, age 15 to 16, 5-5 to 5-6 and 150 to 170 pounds, with short black hair.
A MAN REPORTED that a group of men robbed him at about 9:30 p.m. Monday, July 9, in the parking lot of the XSport Fitness gym, 4677 N. Elston Ave., according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that he was sitting in his car when a group of seven men approached and demanded him to open the door, and that when he refused a man broke the driver’s side window with a wrench or a metal pipe wrapped in a cloth and they dragged him out to the ground and punched and kicked him before one man took his bag containing an iPhone, a pair of gym gloves and air pads, and a wallet containing a driver’s license, bank cards and $20 in cash, according to police. The man was transported to Community First Medical Center for injuries, police said.
The men were described as white/Hispanic and age 18 to 20.
TWO MEN WERE arrested for allegedly robbing a teenager at about 7:45 p.m. Sunday, July 8, in the 4400 block of North Lawndale Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A teenager reported that he was biking and stopped at an alley when two men brandishing long metal poles approached and demanded his bicycle, and that he gave them the bike and then followed them to an apartment building in the 3700 block of West Montrose Avenue, where he called in police, according to police.
The suspects were identified by police as Joshua Harrelson, age 20, of the 3700 block of West Agatite Avenue, and Gavin Nieves, age 23, of the 2600 block of West Haddon Avenue.
SHOTS WERE fired at about 4:45 p.m. Thursday, July 5, in the 4100 block of North Troy Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
Witnesses reported that a man was shooting a gun through the sunroof of a tan Nissan Altima at a silver car driving in front of it before the vehicles drove south on Troy and turned separate directions on Irving Park Road, according to police. Officers recovered eight spent 9mm bullet casings, police said.
The shooter was described as white/Hispanic, with long black hair and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.
SHOTS WERE fired at about 12:50 p.m. Friday, July 6, in the 4100 block of West Eastwood Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A witness reported that he heard multiple shots fired and heard glass bottles breaking, and officers recovered five spent bullet casings, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 12:45 a.m. Thursday, July 5, in the 3500 block of West Lawrence Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 28-year-old man reported that two men approached and punched him and he fell to the ground, and that they removed his shorts containing his wallet, debit cards, social security card and commercial driver’s license before they ran away, according to police.
The men were described as black, approximately 6-0 and 145 pounds, with short black hair.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 1:15 a.m. Sunday, July 8, in an alley in the 4800 block of North Hamlin Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 35-year-old man reported that he was walking home when he was struck in the head by an unknown object and then punched and kicked on the ground, and that one man took his wallet containing a driver’s license, debit cards and $30 in cash as another man took his book bag containing clothes and keys before they ran away south through the alley, according to police.
AN ICE CREAM vendor reported that he was robbed at about 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, in the 4300 block of North Kedzie Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 38-year-old man reported that he was selling ice cream out of a sidewalk push cart when a man bought ice cream and brought him to the alley to pay him, and that the man then grabbed a baseball bat, struck him in the head and took his wallet containing identification cards, miscellaneous papers and $400 in cash as two other men kicked him and took the cart valued at about $3,000, according to police.
The men were described as white/Hispanic.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, in an alley in the 4800 block of North Saint Louis Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 24-year-old man reported that he was walking home when a woman approached and propositioned him for sexual favors that he refused, and that the woman followed him and pushed him into a residential gangway on Saint Louis, threatened him with chemical pepper spray and took his cellphone, a lottery ticket and $40 in cash before she fled south through the alley towards Lawrence Avenue, according to police.
The woman was described as black, 5-8 to 6-0 and 170 to 200 pounds, with brown eyes, long black hair and wearing a black halter top.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 9:45 p.m. Monday, July 9, in an alley in the 3700 block of West Giddings Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 54-year-old man reported that two men approached him in the alley and punched him and took his wallet containing his driver’s license and social security card, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that a man tried to rob him at about 2:15 a.m. Sunday, July 8, in the 3400 block of West Lawrence Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 26-year-old man reported that a man walked up to him, demanded his belongings and punched him in the face, and that he was able to push the man off and run away north on Bernard Avenue, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 4900 block of North Central Park Avenue was burglarized and that his car was stolen at about 2:30 a.m. Friday, July 6, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that his wallet containing a driver’s license, bank cards and $250 in cash was missing from the dining room table and that his car keys were missing from the top of his refrigerator and his 2013 Chevrolet Cruze was missing from the garage, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his house in the 6300 block of North Lawndale Avenue was burglarized between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 8, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the front door had been unlocked and the rear door was forced open and that 50 boxes of jewelry valued at about $30,000 were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that his apartment in the 4900 block of North Drake Avenue was burglarized between 1 and 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she heard someone inside moving a chair and running to the back door and discovered that a rear kitchen window was opened and her roommate discovered that $900 in cash was missing from a jacket pocket, according to police.
FOUR MEN reported that their apartment in the 3900 block of North Sawyer Avenue was burglarized between 10:45 and 11:45 p.m. Thursday, July 5, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The men reported that when one of them returned home he discovered that the front window screen was torn, and that a Play Station 4 video game console valued at $400, a Nintendo Switch video game console valued at $350, video games valued at $300, a tablet computer valued at $300, camera equipment and lens valued at $850, a book bag valued at $20, a cell phone charger valued at $15 and $75 in cash were missing, according to police.
