Local Crime from 17th District 7-8-17
A LIMOUSINE driver was arrested at about 6:35 p.m. Thursday, June 29, for allegedly attempting to strike Alderman John Arena (45th) with his vehicle on the entrance ramp to the Kennedy Expressway at West Irving Park Road, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The alderman reported that while he was taking a photograph of a limousine that was parked illegally on the entrance ramp to the expressway at about 4:35 p.m., the driver drove his vehicle toward him and attempted to hit him with it, according to police.
Arena said that he told several limo drivers to move their vehicles and they did except for one driver.
Arena said that in the last 2 years there have been problems with vehicles parking on the ramp, especially before Chicago Cubs games and other events at Wrigley Field.
Arena reported that the limo driver returned with his vehicle to the same location at about 6:35 p.m. and that he called the police and said that he wanted to press charges, police said.
Officers arrested a man matching a description after he was identified and they discovered a cigarette box in the driver’s possession containing a 2-inch straw that was suspected to be used to ingest cocaine, police said. Drugs were not found, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Joseph Alvarez, age 46, of the 700 block of North Dearborn Street.Foster
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 6:25 p.m. Friday, June 30, in front of the Papa Philly’s restaurant, 3224 W. Foster Ave., according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 27-year-old woman reported that she was unlocking her bicycle from a pole located in front of the restaurant when a man asked what types of possessions she had, and that when she said she had nothing, the man took her cell phone from the back pocket of her pants, according to police. The woman reported that when she attempted to confront the man, he tossed a cup of unknown liquid on her and punched her in the left side of her head, police said.
A COUPLE reported that they were robbed at gunpoint at about 2:50 a.m. Monday, July 3, in the 3800 block of West Roscoe Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 50-year-old man and 47-year-old woman reported that they were sitting in their vehicle when two men approached them and each opened a door, pointed handguns at them and demanded their belongings and took a cell phone from the man and an cell phone valued at $869, two credit cards, vehicle keys and $15 in cash from the woman, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 4800 block of North Lowell Avenue was burglarized between 11 a.m. and noon Thursday, June 29, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that she went outside to play with her children and that when she returned she discovered that a laptop computer and a charger were missing from a table near the rear door, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his apartment in the 4100 block of North Mozart Street was burglarized between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. Friday, June 30, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered an Apple tablet computer valued at $300, a Samsung Vr box valued at $70 and a car key were missing, according to police.
A COUPLE reported that their residence in the 3900 block of North Albany Avenue was burglarized at about 5:35 a.m. Saturday, July 1, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The couple reported that they heard an alarm and discovered that a rear window screen had been cut open and that a cell phone, a set of keys and a wallet containing identification cards and credit cards were missing from the kitchen counter, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 3100 block of West Byron Street was burglarized between 6:45 p.m. Monday, July 3, and 1:30 a.m. the following day, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the rear door had been forced open and that a camera, a passport, a gold watch, a cell phone and a green card with a work visa were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 4700 block of North Central Park Avenue was burglarized between 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 4, and 12:30 a.m. the following day, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home with her family, she discovered that two bedrooms were in disarray and that a gold necklace with a "Christ" medallion valued at $4,000 and various other jewelry items were missing, according to police. The woman reported that there were no signs of forced entry, police said.
LINCOLNWOOD
A MAN WAS charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following his arrest at about 7:40 p.m. Sunday, July 2, in the 6500 block of North Drake Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
Officers responded to a call of a man asleep behind the wheel of his automobile and saw the driver of the vehicle sleeping with the keys in the ignition with the engine running, according to police. The driver was arrested after the officers smelled the odor of alcohol on his breath and discovered two open cans of beer and an unopened bottle of beer inside the vehicle, and he failed sobriety tests, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Juan Salgado, age 40, of the 3000 block of North Major Avenue.
A WOMAN was arrested on drug charges at about 8:35 p.m. Thursday, June 28, in the 6300 block of North McCormick Boulevard, according to Lincolnwood police.
Officers stopped a vehicle with no front license plate and the passenger was arrested after the officers smelled the strong smell of marijuana inside the vehicle and discovered two clear plastic bags and a plastic bottle containing 29.85 grams of marijuana, a bottle containing three pieces of gummy candy suspected to be edible marijuana gummies, a container containing a wax-like substance suspected to be cannabis wax and a crumpled up bill containing 1.31 grams of a white rock-like substance suspected to be cocaine in her possession, according to police.
The driver was issued a citation for driving without a front license plate, police said.
The suspect was identified as Farah Khatoon, age 20, of the 6200 block of North Richmond Avenue.
