Local Crime from 17th District 9-13-14
A SECURITY guard fatally shot a man at about 3:50 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at the Gallo Bravo restaurant, 4503 N. Kedzie Ave., according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A 47-year-old security guard reported that he ordered two men to leave the restaurant because they had broken a window during a previous incident, and that the men returned and one of them attempted to stab him with a knife, according to police. The guard said that he shot the man in the abdomen when the man lunged at him, and the man died at Illinois Masonic Hospital, police said.
The man was identified by police as Juan Carlos Villalobos-Avila, age 36, address unknown.
SEVERAL PEOPLE were arrested following an attack at the Chicago Transit Authority Brown Line station, 4650 N. Kedzie Ave., at about 12:35 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A 26-year-old man and his 17-year-old brother reported that as they were sitting on a bench on the platform, a group of people approached them and asked their gang affiliation, according to police. The 26-year-old man reported that one of the men placed a machete to his brother’s neck and that when he intervened, the man struck him with the weapon on the head several times, causing a large laceration, while the other men prevented their escape, police said.
Officers later stopped a group of people who matched the description that was provided, and they were arrested after they were identified in a lineup, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Mario Elvira, age 18, of the 5300 block of West Foster Avenue, Jean Salvatierra, age 23, of the 4800 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue, Kevin Ramirez, age 19, of the 1300 block of West Rosedale Avenue, Kevar Preston, age 20, of the 3600 block of West Cullom Avenue, a 15-year-old female and two 15-year-old males.
A MAN REPORTED that he was attacked in a gang-related incident at about 12:50 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, in the 3500 block of North Keating Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 20-year-old man reported that a man shouted gang slogans at him and stabbed him in the left hand with an unknown object, according to police. The man was treated at Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, police said.
A TEENAGER reported that he was attacked at about 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, at Ronan Park, 3000 W. Argyle St., according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 17-year-old teen reported that as he was sitting on a bench, a man stabbed him in the stomach, according to police. The teen was treated at Illinois Masonic Hospital, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 2:20 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, in the 4000 block of West Cullom Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 43-year-old man reported that a man followed him into the stairway of his building, pointed a gun at him and took his iPhone valued at $375 and his wallet containing $80, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he discovered an intruder in his home in the 5800 block of North Jersey Avenue at about 9:50 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 21-year-old resident reported that he heard a noise upstairs and discovered a man holding a large bag, and that when the man saw him he escaped through a window, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 4500 block of North Keokuk Avenue was burglarized between 11:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, and 11 a.m. the following day, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the air conditioning unit had been pushed in and that a Play Station 4 video game console was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 4100 block of West Henderson Street was burglarized at about 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that the rear door had been forced open and that a chain valued at $1,200, a touch screen valued at $800 and $5,000 in cash were missing, according to police.

Burglary
A man reported that his car was burglarized between 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, and 5:30 a.m. the following day, while it was parked in the 6900 block of North Knox Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
The man reported that when he returned to the vehicle he discovered that a bag of golf clubs valued at $1,200, golf shoes valued at $80, a global positioning system device valued at $350 and a bag of toiletries valued at $150 were missing, according to police.
St. Louis
A woman reported that her car was burglarized between 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, and 10 a.m. the following day, while it was parked in the 6700 block of North Saint Louis Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
The woman reported that she discovered that two pairs of sunglasses and a pair of reading glasses valued at $100 were missing from the glove compartment, according to police.
Knox
A woman reported that her vehicle was burglarized between 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, and 6:45 a.m. the following day, while it was parked in the 6900 block of North Knox Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
The woman reported that when she returned to the vehicle she discovered that a check for $12, sunglasses valued at $4 and baby clothing were missing, according to police.
Theft
A woman was arrested after she allegedly shoplifted items from at the Carson Pirie Scott store in the Lincolnwood Town Center, 3333 W. Touhy Ave., at about 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9,according to Lincolnwood police.
An employee reported that he saw the woman conceal two items of jewelry valued at $42 and leave the store without paying for the items, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Maria Hernandez, age 50, of the 4500 block of North Sawyer Avenue.
Retail
A man was arrested on retail theft charges at about 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the Kohl’s store in the Lincolnwood Town Center, 3333 W. Touhy Ave., according to Lincolnwood police.
An employee reported that he saw the man take two pairs of underwear and several pieces of jewelry valued at $120 into the fitting room and leave the store without paying for the items, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Claudiu Zmicala, age 21, of the 4300 block of West Dempster Street.
