Local Crime from 1th District 2-24-2016
TWO GIRLS reported that a man chased them at about 5:20 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, in the 5200 block of West Montrose Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The girls, age 11 and 8, reported that after they left Portage Park School, a man got out of a mini-van and chased them, according to police.
THREE people reported that a man shot at their vehicle at about 6:40 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, in an alley of the 3200 block of North Meade Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 36-year-old man and a 16-year-old teenager reported that they were riding in a car driven by a 41-year-old woman and that they turned into an alley and saw a vehicle driving in the opposite direction, according to police said. The man said that the woman flashed the lights for the other car to back up and that when they drove past it the man got out of the car and fired a gun at their 2006 Nissan Altima, with bullets striking the front passenger-side door, police said.
THE OWNER of Miska’s Discount Liquors, 8227 W. Irving Park Road, reported that the business was robbed at gunpoint at about 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The owner reported that a man wearing a white plastic mask and sunglasses entered the store, displayed a handgun and took $200 from the cash register, according to police.
BULLETS struck a car that was parked in the 4900 block of West Hutchinson Street at about 11:50 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A man reported that he heard several gunshots and saw a sport utility vehicle stop in front of his car and then flee, and officers discovered that bullets struck a 2013 Toyota Camry that was parked nearby, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that a man threatened him with a gun at about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, in the 8500 block of West Sunnyside Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 24-year-old man reported that as he was standing in front of his home, a silver Lexus drove by and the passenger pointed a gun at him, according to police.
BULLETS struck a car that was parked in the 5100 block of North Cicero Avenue at about 11:40 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 29-year-old woman reported that she heard five or six shots outside and that she discovered damage to her 1998 Nissan, according to police. Witnesses reported that they saw two men arguing in a mini-van and heard shots fired from inside, police said.
A MAN WAS charged with theft by deceptive practice following his arrest at about 11:20 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, in the 5300 block of West Devon Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 21-year-old man reported that he accompanied the man he met to a home in the 4200 block of North Lockwood Avenue where a second man gave him a haircut, according to police. The man said that the man he met suggested that he trade his car and that he signed over the title to his Infinity and the men drove to an automated teller machine so that he could withdraw cash, police said.
The man reported that he gave the man $400 and his cell phone, and that when they drove to a currency exchange so he could get more money, he got out of their car and they fled, according to police. The suspect was arrested in the 5200 block of West Cullom Avenue based on the description that was provided, police said.
The suspect as identified by police as Julio Mendez, age 22, of the 6100 block of North Seeley Avenue.
A MAN REPORTED that a man took his cell phone at about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, in the 3900 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 43-year-old man reported that as he was driving, a man struck him from behind in a car at Irving Park Road and Linder Avenue and then fled, according to police. The man said that he followed the other car for several blocks until it stopped, and that when he attempted to take the man’s picture with his phone the man grabbed it and fled, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 4900 block of West Grace Street was burglarized between noon Friday, Jan. 15, and 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that an acoustic guitar valued at $1,500 was missing from his room, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5800 block of West Dakin Street was burglarized between 3 p.m. and 4:10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that an iPad valued at $300 and three watches were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5900 block of North Oriole Avenue was burglarized between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear glass door had been broken and that jewelry was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 4800 block of West Addison Street was burglarized at about 8:50 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the back door had been forced open and that $2,000 was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his home in the 6200 block of North Le Mai Avenue was burglarized at about 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that the side door had been forced open and that about $1,150 worth of tools and bicycles were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his car was burglarized between 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, and 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, while it was parked in the 5700 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when discovered that a door had been unlocked and that an envelope containing $700 in cash and a city vehicle sticker were missing, according to police.
THEFTS OF automobiles were reported between Feb. 17 and 22 on the Northwest Side, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts of vehicles were reported in the 4300 block of North Mobile Avenue, the 3300 block of North Oriole Avenue, the 5100 block of North Moody Avenue, the 4600 block of North Central Avenue, the 5200 block of West Leland Avenue, the 6300 block of West Waveland Avenue and the 3200 block of North Normandy Avenue, according to police.
