Longtime Taft HS teacher killed in accident

The one constant at Taft High School the past three decades has been Jeffery Komada overseeing the school’s technology, whether setting up a computer lab, purchasing equipment or dealing with an Internet issue.
Mr. Komada, who worked at Taft for 30 years, died Saturday, April 30, after reportedly being struck by a truck while he was assisting another driver on the southbound I-294 Tollway, near Touhy Avenue.
Anytime Taft has undergone an an administrative change since 1990, it did not take long for the new principal to publicly acknowledge Mr. Komada’s importance to the school. He often played an integral role in presenting the annual school report at Taft High School Local School Council meetings.
Mr. Komada, who served as the school’s coordinator of technology, has been a recipient of the school’s “Teacher of the Month” Award.
