Lt. Thomas Hanrahan named acting commander of 16th (Jefferson Park) Police District on Chicago’s NW Side

Chicago Police Lieutenant Thomas Hanrahan, a 23-year member of the police force, has been named the acting commander of the 16th (Jefferson Park) District.
Previous commander Robert Vanna retired on May 1 from the Chicago Police Department. There are reports that the word “acting” could be dropped from Hanrahan’s title this spring after some bureaucraticl processing is completed.
Hanrahan previously served as the lieutenant in the Forensic Services Division, where he oversaw the processing of the crime scene evidence submitted to the division. He also previously worked as the tactical lieutenant n the 24th (Rogers Park) District. He also has worked in both the Bureau of Detectives and the Bureau of Patrol as a sergeant and served as the Violent Crimes Sergeant in the Area Three Detective Division and as a tactical sergeant in the 15th (Austin) District.
Hanrahan holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from Saint Xavier University and a bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement Management from Calumet College of Saint Joseph.
