Luring alerts issues
The Area North Bureau of Detectives has issued community alerts after two incidents in which children reported that a man attempted to lure them into a vehicle.
A 10-year-old boy reported that a man attempted to lure him into his van at about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12. The boy reported that he was walking home from school with two classmates and that as he was waiting on the sidewalk while his friends went into a gas station to make a purchase, a man in a purple van drove up and repeatedly told him to "come here" pointing to the inside of the vehicle, according to police.
The boy reported that he ran inside the gas station and the man drove away southbound on Laramie, police said.
The man was described as white/Hispanic and age 30, with short black hair and a mustache and wearing a dark gray sweatshirt and jeans.
A 15-year-old girl reported that a man attempted to lure her into his vehicle at about 4:10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, in the 6100 block of West Berwyn Avenue. The girl reported that a man in a vehicle driving west on Berwyn drove up to the curb, rolled down the passenger-side wide window and asked her if she needed a ride, according to police. The girl said that she replied "No" and continued to walk east on Berwyn and the man drove west, police said.
The man was described as white and age 50, with balding brown hair, unshaven, and wearing glasses and a green shirt. The car was described as a newer white four-door sedan.
