Officers saw a sport utility vehicle with front damage and no headlights speeding north on Milwaukee Avenue and disobey a traffic signal at Gale Street and attempted to stop the vehicle, according to police. The vehicle then made a U-turn in the 5300 block of North Milwaukee Avenue and was driven south until two squad cars sandwiched the auto, police said.

Officers ordered the man out of the vehicle, but the pulled away and drove on the sidewalk in the 6000 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, then headed southeast on Elston Avenue, police said.
The driver allegedly attempted to strike pursuing squad cars until his auto collided with a vehicle in the 5000 block of North Elston Avenue, according to police. The driver allegedly resisted arrest and had to be electronically shocked to be restrained and placed into custody, police said.
The man was also charged in court with driving under the influence of alcohol, assault, resisting arrest and fleeing and eluding police, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The suspect was identified by police as Omar Hurtado, age 48, of the 800 block of North Lockwood Avenue.
