An 18-year-old Jefferson Park man was charged with first degree murder after he allegedly fatally shot his 17-year-old brother at about 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at a home in the 5100 block of North Austin Avenue, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and the 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The suspect was identified by police as Brad Nicholson, age 18, of the Austin address.
Nicholson allegedly was arguing in the living room with his 58-year-old father and 49-year-old mother and his brother, Ryan Nicholson, according to police.
The state’s attorney’s office said that the brothers went to the bedroom they shared and continued arguing and that Brad Nicholson pointed a loaded .45 caliber handgun that he had in the bedroom at his brother and fired one shot that struck him in the head, according to the state’s attorney office. The man hid the gun, which was later recovered by police, according to the office.
The victim was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the state’s attorney’s office.
Nicholson is being held on a $750,000 bond, and he is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 13.
