Man reportedly tries to rob Six Corners bank, then barricades himself in apartment

A standoff with police at a home in the 4900 block of West Addison Street ended peacefully at about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, after a man who reportedly had tried to rob a Six Corners bank earlier in the day surrendered to authorities.

An attempted robbery of the Bank of America, 4671 W. Irving Park Road, was reported at about 10:45 a.m., according to the Chicago Police Department Office of News Affairs.

The man fled the bank and was believed to have entered his apartment in the 4900 block of West Addison Street, police said.

The man reportedly barricaded himself in the apartment, where no one else was inside, and a SWAT team was called to the scene, according to police. The man was taken into custody several hours later, police said.

The suspect allegedly implied that he had a gun while at the bank, but no weapon was displayed or found, according to police.

Additional information on the suspect was not available by press time.
