The Area North Bureau of Detectives issued a community alert after reports that a man sexually assaulted a woman and robbed a second woman in two incidents on Belmont Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 23-year-old woman reported that she was sexually assaulted at about 10:05 a.m. Saturday, April 13, in the 6300 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to police. The woman said that she after she got off a bus, a man who was intoxicated grabbed her, implied that he had a gun and a knife and forced her to perform a sex act, according to police.
Two witnesses saw the incident but did not report it because they did not think the woman was under duress, police said.
The woman reported that she took a bus to her workplace and called police after she saw the man in a car in front of the business, according to police.
In the second incident, a 34-year-old woman reported that she was robbed at about 10:50 p.m. same day in the 6900 block of Belmont, police said. The woman said that a man who matched the description of the earlier assailant told her that he wanted to call someone, according to police.
The woman reported that the man’s zipper was open and that he implied that he had a knife and said he wanted her to come with him, according to police. The woman said that when she refused, the man took $7 from her and that he struck her in the face, knocked her to the ground and kicked her in the head after she shouted for help, police said.
The man was described as black, age 28 to 35, 5-10 to 6-0 and 165 to 175 pounds, with short black hair and crooked teeth and wearing black pants, a black sweater, dress shoes and silver earrings in both ears. The man’s vehicle was described as a dark black or dark blue 2005 to 2008 Ford Escort.
Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call the detective bureau at 312-744-8261.
