A 36-year-old man who was shot last month on a side street in Gladstone Park died as a result of his injuries on Friday, Sept. 14, marking the first reported homicide in the 16th (Jefferson Park) Police District this year.
Police have said that the incident appears to be related to a drug deal that went awry but that it remains under investigation. The man who was shot had been arrested about 20 times, according to police.
The man was shot several times in his torso at about 9:40 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, in the 5200 block of North Parkside Avenue, police said.
A short time later the officers found the man lying in the 5200 block of North Northwest Highway. The man was identified by police as Erik L. Miller, of the 100 block of Juliann Drive, Wood Dale.
District commander William Looney said that no one has been arrested in connection with the murder. It was reported that the apparent shooter, who was described only as a black male, was seen fleeing on foot and carrying a bag, according to police.
In each of the three pervious years there were two reported homicides in the district. Four were reported in the district in 2014.
