Mandell convicted on 6 of 8 counts
The storefront on the right at 5308 W. Devon Ave. is where former Chicago police officer Steve Mandell allegedly planned to torture, extort and kill a businessman.
Chicago FBI agents arrested Mandell and Gary Engel in October of 2012, and Mandell was convicted Friday on six of eight counts that he faced. Engel hanged himself in jail after his arrest.
The trial has featured testimony by George Michael, the owner of Michael Realty and the former co-owner of the Citizen’s Bank branch at 5700 N. Central Ave. Michael worked as an informant for the FBI, secretly making video and audio recordings which showed Mandell discussing the plot.
