Milwaukee Ave — home of Throwback Music Fest for 10 years

It started out as a vision for the community — putting a music festival right in the middle of Milwaukee Avenue.

More than 10 years later, the crowds keep returning for this end-of-the-summer bash.

The Throwback Music Fest and Carnival is sponsored by the Gladstone Park Chamber of Commerce and Gladstone Park Neighborhood Association. The corporate sponsors include Wintrust Bank Gladstone Park, Law Office of Jennifer Guimond-Quigley, Allstate Insurance Agent Jaime Morales and Joseph Mullarkey Distributors.

Once again there are two musical stages, a pet costume contest at noon Saturday, and a First Responders Heroes Celebration at noon Sunday along with the classic car show during the day on Sunday.

Headliners on the Main Stage include Radio Gaga at 8 p.m. Friday, Wedding Banned at 8 p.m. Saturday and Serendipity at 6 p.m. Sunday.

The second stage includes local bands — and one of them could make the Main Stage next year.

Gates open at 4 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Your gate donation benefits the chamber’s scholarship program.

Also, the annual Miss Throwback Pin-up Contest will be held on Sunday afternoon. Contestants are asked to capture a “throwback” era, from the 1940s, 1950s or very early 1960s. The hair, makeup and attire is the responsibility of the contestant.

The first round will consist of each contestant having her bio read while the Pin-Up performs 3-5 poses. The judges will narrow it down to the Top 10.

In the second round, the Top 10 finalists will be called to the stage and random questions will be asked of all the final contestants.

After that the scores are tallied, and the winners will be announced: Miss Starlet – 3rd Place; Miss Retrolicious- 2nd Place; and Miss Throwback – 1st Place.

State Farm Agent Beth Cadwalader is sponsoring the contest.

The carnival also will be operating throughout the festival.

The festival is located in the 5900 and 6000 blocks of North Milwaukee Avenue.
