Multiple armed robberies, other gun-related incidents reported on Far NW Side, including Jefferson Park & Sauganash, since July 3

Two robberies and gunfire between the occupants of two vehicles were reported earlier today, July 11, on Chicago’s Far Northwest Side, including the Sauganash and Jefferson Park communities in the 16th and 17th districts, while additional gun-related incidents were reported on Monday, July 3, according to Chicago police.
An unknown number of offenders in a Toyota Camry and a dark-colored BMW were shooting at each other at about 2:25 a.m. in the 4000 block of West Peterson Avenue, police said. Gas pumps at a nearby service station were reported damaged from the gunfire, police said. No injuries were reported.
A 34-year-old male was riding his bicycle southbound in the 4900 block of North Elston Avenue at about 5 a.m. when a black-colored SUV traveling northbound approached the man and four males with handguns exited the vehicle and demanded the victim’s property, police said.
A 45-year-old female and a 47-year-old male reported as they were catering food from their food truck at about 5:20 a.m. in the 5300 block of North Elston Avenue, a dark-colored SUV drove up and two males exited the vehicle and demanded the victim’s property, police said.
In addition, police have issued the following community alert about robberies in late June and early July:
“This alert gives notice to residents of the 012th, 14th, 16th and 18th Districts of recently reported Armed Robbery and Vehicular Hijacking incidents. In each incident offenders exit a vehicle and approach victims on the public way. In each incident, the offenders approach victims, display firearms and demand cellphones and purses or bags. In one of the incidents a street vendor and its patrons were also robbed in the early morning hours.”
Incidents include:
- 5000 block of West Montrose Ave, Monday July 03, 2023 at 5:20am
- 5800 block of West Eastwood Ave, Monday July 03, 2023 at 5:30am
The offenders are described as four to five Black males, 20-25 years of age, wearing dark clothing. The offenders were armed with black semi-automatic handguns and rifles, police said.
