Naked man reportedly arrested after altercations on Chicago’s NW Side; officer injured, police car damaged

A man was hospitalized after he allegedly attacked another man at about 11:40 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, in the 5300 block of North Oketo Avenue and a witness later struck him in the head with a hammer, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of a naked man that jumped on to the hood of a vehicle in traffic in the 7300 block of West Summerdale Avenue and a short time later found a man standing in the street in the 7300 block of West Foster Avenue, with blood on his chest, mouth and stomach, according to police.
Officers reported that the man moved toward their unmarked police vehicle, then jumped on to the hood and punched the windshield until it broke, police said. Officers exited their vehicle and the man allegedly charged at one of the officers, causing them to move away, and he then charged at a second officer who deployed her taser twice but missed, according to police. The man then charged at a third officer, who fired his taser and connected, and the man was placed into custody, police said.
A witness provided surveillance footage that showed the man allegedly had punched another man several times in the head and chest when an unknown witness walked up and struck the naked man in the head with a hammer, according to police.
The suspect was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, where he was treated in critical condition for a fracture to the left side of his skull and his jaw, police said.
An officer suffered injuries to both hands while trying to put the suspect in custody, police said. The suspect reportedly tried to prevent being placed in custody by clinching his arms and moving away from the officers, police said.
Information on possible charges against the man was not available.
