The owner of a jewelry store in the Village of Niles was found injured at about 3 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Edgebrook Golf Course, 6100 N. Central Ave., after he was allegedly robbed and abducted from near his home in the village, according to the Niles Police Department.
The 72-year-old man reported that he was showing jewelry from his store to clients at a bar in the City of Des Plaines on Sept. 28, and that at some point in the night he returned to park outside his apartment in the 8100 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to police.
The man reported that he was attacked and robbed by three men wearing masks and armed with baseball bats, who abducted him in a vehicle and took jewelry valued at about $12,000, his apartment and business keys and his clothing, police said. The exact time of the robbery is unknown, though it’s believed to have occurred after midnight, a Niles police department spokesman said.
The man reported that the men then left him wearing only his underwear at the golf course where officers from the 16th (Jefferson Park) Police District discovered him visibly beaten at about 3 a.m., according to police. The man was transported to Resurrection Medical Center for treatment, police said. The man was in stable condition, according to the Niles police spokesman.
Detectives believe that the incident was isolated and that the victim was targeted, and no additional suspect information is currently available.
