Police respond to reported robbery, attack at Gompers Park in Mayfair

The following crime-related incidents at Gompers Park on Chicago’s NW Side recently were reported:
A 50-year-old man reported that another man beat him and stole his silver-plated necklace during an altercation at about 1:55 p.m. Monday, May 12, at Gompers Park, 4222 W. Foster Ave., according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
Responding officers reported that the injured man was bleeding profusely from his mouth, nose and arms and that the suspect was taken into custody after the man had pointed him out, according to police. The suspect reportedly was sitting in a lawn chair near the basketball court when officers arrived, police said.
The suspect, who was identified by police as Adolfo Agreda, age 41, of the 1800 block of South Loomis Street, was charged with robbery and battery in connection with the incident, police said.
A 39-year-old woman reported that a man grabbed her by the neck and tried strangling her at about 8:15 a.m. Saturday, May 3, while she was in the homeless encampment at Gompers Park, 4222 W. Foster Ave., according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that the man came to her tent looking for a friend who was not there and became aggressive toward her, according to police. She also reported that she did not lose consciousness and that the man eventually left the tent, police said.
Responding officers reported that the woman had lacerations around her neck and left side of her face but refused medical attention, police said.
The man was described as around 35-years-old, 6-0, 190 pounds, with black Afro-style hair and wearing a gray t-shirt, blue jeans and white gym shoes, police said.
Last week the Chicago Park District closed off a section of Gompers Park to tents due to planned construction at the park, including a new nature play area.
