Police search for suspects in area salon robberies

by CYRYL JAKUBOWSKI

The Chicago Police Department Area North Bureau of Detectives is asking the public’s help in identifying and locating two suspects who are responsible for armed robberies of nail salons in the 17th (Albany Park) Police District and the 19th (Town Hall) Police District recently.

In the most recent incident, two employees of Spa Nail City, 4151 W. Peterson Ave., reported that two male teenagers robbed the salon at gunpoint at about 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.

The employees reported that two adolescents entered the salon and said, "Nobody move," and that one of them pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at them while the other went behind the counter and took $300 in cash from the register and a cell phone before both men fled, according to police.

Another similar incident in which offenders pointed a handgun and took cash and cell phones was reported at about 11:40 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at 2 x 10 Nails and Spa, 2112 W. Roscoe St., police said.

The suspects are described as black, age 16 to 18, 5-4 to 5-8 and 130 to 160 pounds, and wearing dark hooded jackets, blue jeans or seat pants (possibly with the number "85" printed on the hip) and gym shoes.

Police are also investigating if the aforementioned robberies are related to other incidents on the Northwest Side.

In one incident, employees of Happy Feet spa, 5901 N. Milwaukee Ave., reported that two teenagers robbed the business at gunpoint at about 7:40 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

The employees reported that a male teenager entered the business with a black revolver and said, "Don’t shout," while another male teen entered wearing a ski mask before they took a wallet, identification cards, $1,500 in cash and $700 in Chinese currency from one of the employees, a backpack containing identification cards, keys and $150 in cash from another employee, and a cell phone from a third employee, according to police.

A similar robbery was reported in October at a nail salon in Highland Park, police said.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Area North detectives at 312-744-8263.
