Robberies, burglaries reported on Northwest Side

An employee of the 7-Eleven, 6375 N. Milwaukee Ave., reported that a man with a handgun robbed the store at about 11:55 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

The employee reported that a man entered the store, pointed a handgun and demanded money from the register, according to police. The employee reported that the man took about $300 in cash, then fled south on Milwaukee in a black Kia Soul, police said.

The man was described as White, age 20 to 25, 5-6 to 5-8 and 140 to 150 pounds, and wearing a black ski mask, black gloves, a dark blue hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants and Nike gym shoes.

A woman was shot with a shotgun in the arm after allegedly attacking a man with a bat during an apparent domestic related incident at about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at an Edgebrook home near Central and Devon avenues, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

Officers responded to a call of a person shot and saw through a window a woman on a bed bleeding, according to police. Officers entered the home when the woman called for help and they escorted her to an ambulance, police said. The woman was transported to Lutheran General Hospital, where she was treated for gunshot wounds to her right wrist, according to police.

The woman reported that she and the man were arguing when they went separate ways in the house, police said. The woman reported that she heard the sound of the man racking a gun so she went to investigate and the man allegedly fired a shotgun through a closed door, according to police.

Officers later discovered the man hiding in the back yard of the home and placed him into custody, police said. The man reported that the woman allegedly struck him in the arm with a baseball bat and he was transported to Saint Francis Hospital, according to police. Officers recovered two shotguns and a baseball bat as well as seven other weapons in plain sight in the house, police said.

The woman was also placed into custody due to an outstanding warrant after she was released from the hospital, police said. Neither the man nor the woman had been charged as of press deadline.

A man reported that a man robbed him at about 2:45 a.m. Monday, Sept. 1, in the 3300 block of North Leclaire Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

The 63-year-old man reported that he was walking on the sidewalk when a man exited the alley, held his hand in his pocket as though he had a handgun and demanded his cell phone and wallet, according to police. The man reported that he did not have a wallet but gave the man two cell phones valued at $600 and the man fled east in the south alley of West Henderson Street, police said.

The man was described as Black, age 22 to 25, 5-11 to 6-0 and 175 to 190 pounds, and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark blue jeans.

A man reported that three men burglarized the garage of his home in the 5200 block of North Lamon Avenue between about 4 a.m. and 5:25 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

The man reported that his neighbor showed him surveillance footage of three men trying to force open the overhead door of his garage, damaging the door and taking several items, according to police.

The man reported that various tools valued at $4,700 were missing, police said.

One of the men was described as White, age 30 to 39 and 4-9, and wearing a Hawaiian shirt. The other two men were described as White/Hispanic and age 20 to 29, and wearing dark-colored clothing.

A man was arrested for allegedly trying to break into a home at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, in the 3500 block of North Osceola Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

A woman tending to a child who had reportedly been pepper sprayed reported that students from a nearby school perform “ding dong ditch” pranks at the address for social media and they’ve contacted officials about the ongoing issue, according to police.

A resident of the home reported that a man arrived at about 4:30 p.m. and allegedly tried to kick down the front door because he found out his son had been pepper sprayed by someone, police said.

The man reported that he did not spray anyone and assumed other kids did it as part of a prank, according to police.

The resident reported that the man allegedly kicked the window screen and pulled it open and shoot pepper spray into his home after he couldn’t break in, police said. The man reportedly returned again to the home with a knife and allegedly threatened to kill residents of the home, according to police.

Officers located the man’s vehicle in the 4000 block of Harlem, pulled him over and placed him into custody, police said.

The suspect was identified by police as Thomas M. Brown, age 48, of the 7600 block of West Addison Street.

A witness reported that two men broke into a vehicle and stole several items at about 5 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, while it was parked in the 5000 block of North Austin Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

 The witness reported that two men wearing orange vests and hooded sweatshirts broke the rear passenger side window of the vehicle, took multiple items, then fled south in a nearby alley, according to police. The owner of the vehicle reported that various power tools valued at about $2,000 were missing, police said. Detailed descriptions of the men were not provided, according to police.

A burglary was reported at about 3:40 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Smoke Town, 6143 W. Touhy Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

Entry was gained by breaking a door, according to police.

The incident appears to be related to a series of smoke shop break-ins, police said.

Nine motor vehicle thefts were reported in the area between about 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, and about 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

Thefts were reported in the 7600 and 8500 blocks of West Higgins Avenue, the 6000 block of North Northwest Highway, the 3900 block of North Octavia Avenue, the 5600 block of North Elston Avenue, the 6900 block of North Tonty Avenue, the 7000 block of North Ionia Avenue, the 4400 block of North Laporte Avenue and in the 4400 block of North Menard Avenue, according to police.

A man reported that his apartment in the 4600 block of North Kennicott Avenue was burglarized at about 2:20 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.

 The man reported that he returned to his apartment, discovered his cell phone valued at $200 and a carton of cigarettes were missing and his kitchen window was open, according to police.

A man reported that the garage of his home in the 4600 block of North Kasson Avenue was burglarized at about 2:50 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.

The man reported that surveillance footage showed a man tried to force open the front door of his home but was scared away by a motion-activated light, according to police.

Footage showed the man then went into the back yard of the home, then entered the side door of the garage, police said.

The man reported that $25 cash was missing from his vehicle and it had apparently been rummaged through, according to police.

Footage showed the man removed a bicycle from the garage, set it against the garage, then stayed in the back yard until approximately 3:10 a.m., at which point he fled through the front yard of the home without taking the bicycle, police said.

The man was described as 5-2 to 5-3 and 150 pounds, with wavy black hair, wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans, according to police. Police think the same man may be involved in other burglaries.

An employee of Shell, 5155 N. Kimball Ave., reported that a man with a handgun robbed the gas station at about 11:45 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.

The employee reported that a man entered the station, pointed a handgun, and demanded money from the register, according to police.

The employee reported that they opened the register, gave the man less than $100 in cash and he fled to a dark-colored sedan and drove away in an unknown direction, police said.

The employee provided surveillance footage of the robbery and reported that a man matching the same description robbed the station on Friday, Aug. 15, then provided the report number for that robbery, according to police.

The man was described as age 20 to 30, 5-5 and 170 pounds, with a light brown complexion, wearing a blue Nike hooded sweatshirt with a dark-colored “swoosh” inside a white circle and black pants.

Two employees of Jewel-Osco, 4042 W. Foster Ave., reported that two men stole several bottles of alcohol at about 1:50 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, and one of the men attacked them with pepper spray, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.

An employee reported that he watched the two men place several bottles of liquor into their backpacks and he approached them as they left the store, according to police.

The employee reported that he identified himself to the men as they fled, one of the men grabbed an empty shopping cart and pushed it at him, striking him in the legs, police said.

The employee reported that he chased the man into one of the hallways exiting the store, grabbed the man’s backpack and recovered several bottles of alcohol when the other man started spraying him with pepper spray, according to police.

The employee reported that he relocated into the store when the man he originally stopped pushed him into a rack of gift cards, causing the rack to fall over, then fled without any of the items he stole, police said.

Another employee reported that the man with the pepper spray attacked her by spraying her directly in the eyes as he fled with a backpack full of stolen items, according to police.

The man that sprayed the employees with pepper spray was described as White/Hispanic and age 20 to 30, and wearing a black do-rag, black tank top, black pants and white gym shoes.

The man that pushed the employee into the gift card rack was described as Black and age 20 to 30, and wearing a sweater with a gray logo on the front, gray jeans and white gym shoes.
