Sculpture pays tribute to area’s Native-American heritage
An unveiling ceremony for a 10-foot aluminum sculpture that pays tribute to the area’s Native-American heritage was held Oct. 12 in the Six Corners shopping district.
The Six Corners Association commissioned the sculpture, which depicts a Native American portaging a canoe. The stylized work by sculptor Ted Sitting Crow Garner was installed in a planter box on the east side of Cicero Avenue north of Irving Park Road in front of the Sears Department store.
The Portage Park neighborhood was named for a portage between the Chicago River and the Des Plaines River.
