Several robberies were reported on Monday, Feb. 19, in the 16th (Jefferson Park) Police District, including a woman who was beaten and robbed at about 11:30 a.m. at an alley entrance near Pensacola and Linder avenues.
The woman, who is in her 50s or 60s, reportedly was knocked to the ground in the 5400 block of West Pensacola Avenue, and her purse containing cash was stolen, police said. A club-like object was used during the attack, police said.
The robbery, which an area surveillance camera recorded, occurred around the corner from Vaughn Occupational High School, 4355 N. Linder Ave. The two assailants were described as Black males, and they fled in a nearby car, police said.
Alderman Jim Gardiner (45th) said that he plans to hold a public safety meeting next week. More details will be announced later this week.
Also, a 26-year-old woman was robbed while walking at about 2:30 p.m. on the sidewalk in the 6000 block of North Elston Avenue, police said.
Three assailants used a metal object to strike the woman in the mouth and arm, knocking her to the ground, police said.
A shoulder bag was stolen, and the assailants fled in a dark-colored sedan. A cell phone and other items taken in the robbery were later found near the Milwaukee-Devon intersection, police said.
A 16-year-old male was shot in his right leg at about 7:40 p.m. in the 5700 block of West Cornelia Avenue during a reported robbery, police said. Several shots were fired, and the teen was transported in good condition to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, police.
