Shop & Save Market to take over former Dominick’s at Nagle/Devon
by BRIAN NADIG
Alderman Mary O’Connor (41st) announced today that Shop & Save Market, a full-service produce and grocery store chain, will be taking over the former Dominick’s store at Devon and Nagle avenues.
“We are so glad that they have made this investment in the community,” O’Connor said. “They will bring the level of service and quality of food that people in the 41st Ward expect.”
This store, whose address is 6312 N. Nagle Ave., is expected to open in early summer and will offer produce, meats, deli, dairy, liquor and general groceries, O’Connor said. Shop & Save has six other Chicago area locations, including Niles and Des Plaines.
O’Connor said that she has asked the store’s owner Eva Jakubowski to try to hire locally and to be
responsive to “the different community needs.”
Shop & Save is purchasing the portion of the shopping center where Dominick’s was located and is planning to make some improvements to the building before the store opens, O’Connor said. Other portions of the shopping center include a Walgreen’s, a nail salon and a dental office.
Safeway Inc., the parent company of Dominick’s, decided to pull out of the Chicago market last year, and closed or sold all of its Chicago stores by the end of December.
