Shots fired at police car on NW Side last weekend
Shots were fired at an unmarked squad car at about 9:20 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, in the 4800 block of West Roscoe Street, according to Chicago police.
Officers saw a group of people holding flags while wearing ski masks on the corners of the intersection of Cicero Avenue and Roscoe Street, according to police. Officers saw the group gathered around a white Ford Mustang and a license plate search showed the registration was expired, police said.
An officer began writing a citation for the vehicle and heard six to eight gunshots, saw a muzzle flash from behind the police vehicle and one of the shots struck the vehicle, according to police.
Officers said the shots were fired from a black Dodge Durango and they provided a description of the vehicle and the direction of travel, police said. A firearm was recovered in the 3300 block of North Lamon Avenue and seven spent shell casings were recovered from the 4800 block of Roscoe, according to police.
Multiple police units searched the area and one of them discovered a vehicle matching a description with a shattered rear windshield as the driver pulled into a parking spot near Laramie Avenue and Henderson Street, police said. Officers detained the driver and a passenger from the Durango, according to police.
The incident is under investigation, police said.
