Streets and Sanitation truck catches fire
Workers spread salt after a city Department of Streets and Sanitation truck caught fire and was extinguished at about 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, in the 5400 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The driver reported that he saw smoke coming from the cab of the garbage truck and told the passenger to exit and the vehicle erupted in flames, according to police. Fire department officials reported that the cause of the fire might have been mechanical.
A Chicago Fire Media Affairs spokesman said that parts of Milwaukee had to be shut down for a brief period of time.
