Suspect charged with robbery of Jefferson Park business; he reportedly had been arrested a day earlier for an incident elsewhere

A man who allegedly was carrying a knife was arrested about 7:45 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, in connection with a reported robbery a short time earlier at Dunkin’ Donuts, 4825 N. Austin Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

Employees reported that a man jumped over the counter and demanded that the register be opened, according to police. He allegedly took $215 in cash and during the incident he reportedly had a hand a jacket pocket, creating fear the workers told officers that he had a weapon, police said.

Responding officers took the man into custody while after they reportedly saw him walking in the 4500 block of North Austin Avenue, and the officers reported recovering an approximately 12-inch black handle blade/knife, police said.

The man reportedly had been in the store earlier in the day asking for $5 and was told to leave, which he did, police said.

The suspect had been arrested the previous day in connection with an alleged battery incident in the 1000 block of West Belmont Avenue, and last year he was arrested in connection with an alleged reckless conduct and trespassing incident in the 5900 block of West Lawrence Avenue, according to Chicago police.

The suspect, who was identified by police as Dwayne Z. Robinson, age 29, of the 6000 block of West Lawrence Avenue, was charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and one count each of robbery, simple assault and criminal trespass to land in connection with the Sept. 20 incident, according to police.
