Suspected gang member arrested for graffiti, gun at Jefferson Park CTA Terminal
A suspected gang member who allegedly had a gun in his backpack was arrested at about 2:55 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, after he reportedly was seen spraying graffiti at the Jefferson Park CTA Terminal, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Responding officers apprehended the man while he was on the station’s platform, according to police. The recovered gun was a Ruger Redhawk revolver, police said.
The man told officers that he had used hairspray to write a small amount of graffiti, and the officers then found a can of red hairspray in a garbage can next to where the man had been sitting, police said.
The suspect, who was identified by police as Jonathan Castro, age 20, of the 4600 block of West Warwick Avenue, was charged with criminal defacement of property, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number and a firearms owner identification violation, police said.
