Teen arrested after reportedly caught with 51 ‘hash oil’ vape cartridges in Jefferson Park alley

A 16-year-old male was arrested at about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, in an alley of the 4800 block of West Montrose Avenue, after officers saw him try to hide from them and later found he allegedly possessed 51 cannabis oil vape cartridges, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police. Officers were aware of recent complaints of suspected drug sales in the west alley of Cicero near Montrose and saw the teen try to hide against a wall as they drove past so they stopped to investigate, according to police.
Officers reported smelling cannabis as they approached the teen and saw he was holding a plastic bag containing what appeared to be cannabis vape cartridges, police said.
Officers discovered the bag contained multiple cannabis vape cartridges so they placed the teen into custody and recovered additional cartridges from the teenager’s backpack during a custodial search, according to police.
Officers recovered a total of 51 two-ounce cartridges, police said.
The suspect also reportedly had $552 in cash, which police described as in small denominations consistent with street sales, and a drug-sniffing dog was alerted to the money, police said.
The 16-year-old reportedly attends Schurz High School and was transported to the 16th District station, and his parents were contacted, according to police.
