Teens report being robbed while playing football at Olympia Park on Chicago’s NW Side

Three teenagers reported that a group of 15 males robbed them at about 6:20 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, while they were playing football at Olympia Park, 6566 N. Avondale Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

Officers were dispatched to a disturbance after a group of 15 males reportedly was overheard talking about guns while walking towards Olympia Park, near the intersection of Devon and Overhill avenues, according to police. Officers were then dispatched to meet a robbery victim in the 7500 block of West Devon Avenue and met three teenagers, police said.

The teens reported that they were playing football when a group of males approached them, one of the assailants pointed a black handgun and demanded their shoes, hooded sweatshirts and money, according to police.

The teenagers reported that the assailants told them to leave the north end of the park, and the offenders fled in an unknown direction, police said.

Officers stopped a group of 15 males matching the provided descriptions near the intersection of Talcott and Harlem avenues, but the victims were unable to positively identify the offenders, according to police.

A 17-year-old male was placed into custody after he allegedly threw a black backpack to the ground, attempted to flee and officers discovered a replica firearm inside the backpack, police said.
