Two men fatally shot behind apartment building near Hiawatha Park on Chicago’s NW side

Two men have died of gunshot wounds after they were found at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, June 25, behind a residence in the 7800 block of West Cahill Terrace near Hiawatha Park on Chicago’s Northwest Side, according to police.
Alderman Nicholas Sposato (38th) said that there is a “problem” apartment on the block where a previous shooting reportedly occurred but that it is not clear if that apartment is connected to the June 25 shootings. He added that it is his understanding the two young men who died did not live at that apartment.
Sposato added that while the investigation is in its early stages, police have indicated to him that the June 25 shootings appear to be isolated and that there does not appear to be an immediate threat at this time to the surrounding neighborhood.
Both men were shot multiple times and were transported in critical condition to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where each was later pronounced, police said.
One of the men was described by police as 20 years old. He suffered two gunshot wounds to his chest, and one to his head, back and right shoulder, police said.
The second man, whose age was not immediately known, sustained gunshot wounds to his back, neck and left leg, police said.
Area Five Detectives are investigating.
Until today, the 16th (Jefferson Park) Police District had experienced only one reported murder in 2026.
