Van windshield smashed in Jefferson Park

by BRIAN NADIG

The windshields of at least four parked vehicles were reported shattered by an individual stomping on them at about 1 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, near the Ainslie-Laramie intersection, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Police said that they are looking into a report that kicking in windshields could be part of a teen trend being promoted on the social media platform TikTok.

A surveillance camera at the intersection’s Olive’s Neighborhood Garden for the Hungry captured one of the incidents on video.

The video shows an occupant exiting a dark blue sedan that had pulled up in front of a parked vehicle and then getting on its hood before preceding to stomp on the windshield until it shatters. The quality of the video is dark and not always clear.
In one incident a resident reported that a man also dented the passenger side door of his 2018 Audi A5 by kicking it after he already had kicked in the windshield, according to police said. The vehicle also had numerous scratches, police said.

The man stomping on the cars was described in one of the incidents as White-Hispanic, weighing 200 pounds and with black hair, police said. In another incident, the man was described as age 20, 5-7 and weighing 150 pounds and wearing dark clothing, police said.

It is not clear how many people were inside the sedan which was seen pulling up in front of parked vehicles near the intersection. It also was reported that the sedan was seen traveling at a high speed through the area.
