Wildwood LSC awards contract to new principal
by BRIAN NADIG
The Wildwood School Local School Council has announced that it plans to award a contract for the school’s new principal to Lissette Rua next week.
Since 2014, Rua has served as the principal of Fulton School, 5300 S. Hermitage Ave. and previously was an assistant principal at Saucedo Scholastic Academy, 2850 W. 24th Blvd. She also has worked as a bilingual teacher and a literacy coach, according to her resume.
The Wildwood LSC plans to approve Rua’s contact at a meeting held at 6:45 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, followed by a meet-and-greet with her and the community at 7 p.m.
"The LSC is confident that Ms. Rua will exceed your expectations as an exemplary school leader for Wildwood, and the LSC is committed to supporting her in that effort," the council said in a statement.
The council added, "Throughout the entire principal selection process, Ms. Rua clearly emerged as the most qualified candidate and a phenomenal educator to lead Wildwood."
The council conducted a principal search last summer, but the final candidate of that search withdrew her name from consideration.
"We have been listening to the community carefully throughout this long process. The community’s voice has been diligently represented by incorporating your survey feedback into all aspects of the selection process, including the principal job posting and interview rubrics," the LSC stated.
The school’s principal position became vacant when Mary Beth Cunat left in June to take a principal’s job in Rockford. Former Wildwood principal Elena Savoy has been serving as the school’s administrator in charge until a new principal is hired.
The LSC plans to release an electronic survey next week in which Wildwood staff, parents and community members will be asked to submit one priority that the school should focus on for the rest of the school year.
The LSC asks that questions and comments about the selection process be e-mailed to lscwildwood@gmail.com.
