Window guards installed on vacant former fire station
Workers installed door and window guards on a vacant former fire station at 4855 N. Lipps Ave. to prevent people from using the site illegally and to prevent further damage to the building after its basement flooded.
The fire station had been occupied by the city Department of Fleet and Facility Management, the Department of Streets and Sanitation and other departments after it closed.
A spokesman for Alderman John Arena (45th) said that the building has been vacant for several months and that the Department of Planning and Development will issue a request for proposals seeking parties interested in purchasing it.
